El dorado seaside suites location

Hi, I could really do with some advice on the locatio. Of EDSS in relation to options for life outside of the resort...

I realise this is an AI resort, so has bars and restaurants on site, but I like to have the option to explore the surrounding area - is there anything around? Other bars/restaurants cute little markets??

If not, is there a shuttle service to other towns/areas that offer more options like this if we wanted to venture out and about? Are taxis expensive?

I have read that puerto Morelos is more the authentic 'mexican' kind of resort, and does sound quite appealing from that point of view... But we would really like to stay at EDSS... (it's our honeymoon so want somewhere lovely, but don't like the huge super resorts and can't afford el dorado maroma) We just don't want

to feel that staying on the resort is our only option. It seems crazy to go all the

way to Mexico and never leave the hotel!

Any advice on this is much appreciated

Check laura's maps at cancunmaps dot com. Order a map or two if you have time. She has a great hotel locator there. Your resort is very close to the quaint town of Akumal which has some unique shops, beachfront bars and restaurants, great snorkleing with the turtles. You cna get there via the local colectivo system for 25 pesos pp. You are also close to Puert Adventuras, a more "modernized marina" town, 15 minutes to Playa del Carmen, close to Ttulum ruins and Tulum pueblo.

Least expensive way to get around is colectvo. Taxis aren't too bad.

Hi

We were at EDSS at the beginning of September, it is a lovely resort with good facilities and great service but it is remote. We took a taxi to Tulum one day which was about 20 minutes drive and it was $60 return including tip. We spoke to people who had done the same to Playa del Carmen and it was roughly the same price/time/distance so as you can see it can be pretty expensive unless you use the collectivo bus. We would go back to Mexico in a heart beat and although we liked the EDSS we would probably choose somewhere more central next time so we could do exactly what you want to do...venture out without too much hassle.

Granted, the resort is quite a distance from Cancun but you are in fact closer to certain places of interest than the majority of other hotels - Tulum, Coba, Xcaret and numerous Cenotes just as an example. Depends on what you like.

Thanks everyone for your advice. We're not bothered about going to cancun - just wanted to be able to wonder off and explore the local area if we fancied a change of scenery. It doesn't sound as if doing this by foot is possible but the collectivo sounds quite good. Does anyone know how often it runs? And how late into the evening?

We definitely want to all the main sights/attractions but will do these through our tour rep I imagine. However, we would like to go into playa one evening/ one day and maybe tulum too, doing our own thing.

Many thanks x

We have been to the area numerous times. There is great snorkelling in Akumal for turtles and lots of colourful fish. We have rented a car, and have had no issues driving in the area. The ruins of Tulum and especially Coba are wonders to see. Hidden Worlds has cenotes, sky cycle, zip lining, etc.

We were to EDSS about 7 or 8 years ago and are going again November 23 - 30. Really looking forward to it. We had a tour a couple of years ago to see what they had done to make it larger. They have done a wonderful job.

If you would like some specifics, feel free to contact us.

You can always ask other people at the resort if anyone else wants to

go exploring.Double up on a cab to help keep the cost down or check

with LOOMAS Travel at the front area and if you get 3 or 4 couples arrange

with them to get you a van to go exploring to help keep the costs down.

I am sure there will always be atleast one or two couples that may want to go exploring as well.Anyway you go have fun and be safe
