Has anyone stayed at the Barcelo Maya Palace and can comment on the quality of the food there?
Food quality is a rather subjective topic, but suffice it to say that in-general, the Barcelo Palace is slightly above-average for such a huge all-inclusive style resort. We found their French Brasserie a la carte to be their most-superior venue.
The Palace definately has more variety and seemingly better quality than their entry-level Beach/Caribe complex or their moderate-level Colonial/Tropical complex.
Hope this helps!
We were there ten days in February 2012 and we thought the food was very good to great.
Especially the breakfast buffet, SO much variety and it was all good.
Our favourite a la carte was the French Brasserie, too. The escargot, the surf and turf, all excellent. The Brazilian steakhouse and the other one at the Palace was also very good. We went to the Italian one, I think it is Capri, at the Tropical/Colonial, also really good.
None of the 16 people in our party had any complaints whatsoever about the food.
We did notice that the beach buffets at the Tropical/Colonial (we went a few times) was not as good as the Palace. I would go so far as to say not even close. Less variety, not as good presentation, and it always seemed to be understaffed and the service more indifferent.
Thank you for your comments.
