Moon Palace Spa and Golf Resort or Barcelo Maya Palace?

I've been to the Moon Palace with my family and loved that the resort is huge with lots of things /activities for young children (9 & 13). Looking to try a new place and thinking of the Barcelo Maya Palace. Looks to be the same type of family oriented resort with a much better beach that the Moon Palace. Has anyone been to both of these places and can provide some insight?

The nearly 2 km long Barcelo beach is a superior beach to the Moon Palace, but NOT in-front of their Palace - you will need to walk south towards their other on-site resorts to appreciate that superiority!

While the Barcelo Palace has their guest-exclusive Barcy Kids Water Park as well as their Barcy Kids Club for those under age 12, for older kids & teens, the Moon Palace outshines them every step of the way!

FYI - the area's absolute best kid & teen activity programs are at the Grand Palladium complex just a few kilometers south of Barcelo. While the beach there is not as long as Barcelo's, it is equally as nice, and certainly an improvement over that at the Moon Palace. Definately check-it-out as an alternative!

Which Grand Palladium hotel would you recommend? There appears to be three of them. Is one of them superior to others.?

We have been to both the moon palace january2012 and the barcelo jan2013. We are returning to the moon palace in January 2014. The barcelo has nicer rooms beach and grounds but the service and the food is not comparable to the moon. All the shows at night at the barcelo are inside in a theatre no entertainment outside and there are no outside bars at night. You need to make reservations for a la cartes and they are hard to get but when you walk by the restaurants at night they are half empty. Hardly seen a smile from most of the bartenders and that was with tipping. There is no food service by the pools so for lunch you have to go to a Buffett. They do have a small bar menu by the pool where you can eat but you have to pay. When I tried to order one day the bartender told me it would take over an hour so just go to the buffet.

I am a beach person but even with how bad the beach was at the moon palace I still loved it there. The service was so much better

Have been to both Barcelo and Palladium in the past 4 months. We enjoyed both vacations. The beach is better at Barcelo. So is the quality and diversity of food and drinks. Have wanted to go to Moon but always decide against it because of their beach.
