Hard Rock RM or Hard Rock Punta Cana?

We are wanting to travel next June with our family of 5, 3 girls ages 6,9,12. We stayed at Moon last year in the family suites and are looking for the same this year. We really enjoyed Moon but are booking with a member that has a Hard Rock membership. We fly out of Chicago and know the flight difference and times, but I am really looking on advice on how these two properties differ? Any information will help! Thanks!

Having been to both, we found that The Hard Rock in Punta Cana is not the best of destinations for families with children the ages of yours. It is a huge resort complex with an OK beach but virtually unswimmably rough surf - even with the unsightly giant 'whales' they have placed off shore to create an artificial breakwater. Therefore most of your time will be likely spent at their family-friendly main pool area. While they have a kids club and offer various age-related daytime activities for them, make no mistake about it - this Hard Rock caters to the adult population, even offering a European 'au natural' pool area and sun deck. It is also home to Punta Cana's largest casino and their infamous NY-style ORO nightclub. Those attractions are open to the general, non-guest public at no charge, which year-round brings very crowded conditions and as you can imagine, all kinds of other mayhem. FYI - in Punta Cana, the food quality and variety are sub-par when compared to the Riveria Maya, and you absolutely cannot even brush your teeth with anything other-than bottled water. And during the intense heat and humidity there in June, the biggest complaint is that the guest rooms never get cold enough or dehumidified as the resort itself (as most of Punta Cana) uses the more-economical 'evaporative swamp chiller' type "air conditioning" systems rather-than the icy-cold freon-based systems that you are used to in North America.

Stick with the Hard Rock Riveria Maya. Much more suitable.

Thank you so much for the detailed informational response! We changed a trip from Punta Cana to RM before after reading reviews of bad food quality. Different resort chain but still same issues it seems. Thanks again!

Food in Punta Cana is just not as good as mexico it seems! That is true in our travels for sure. My grown daughter loved the hard Rock RM. There is no real beach there so as long as you realize that all is fine. There will be lots to do there however and the lagoon/man made beach is calm so good for kids re kayaking etc!!

I was at the Hard Rock Punta Cana in February. No kids mind you.

I had a great time, but thought the food was awful. I have a review of it if you click me :)
