catalonia yucatan beach resort

I have seen lots of pics of the beach and ocean at this resort, but cant clearly define if its lots of rocks in the water or sea weed.

Can anyone enlighten me please.

Thanks, neilm

Those are rocks in the pics if it's the pic of the horseshoe shaped cove. Don't let that deter you too much though. It's a great resort for the price you pay. also, there is a lagoon (at the far right when looking at the pic) that isn't rocky at all. great place to layout, kayak, swim and snorkel if the cove is rough....or you don't have your water shoes.

Si, those are rocks. Water shoes are advisable, but not mandatory. There is a large sandy spot that you can get to quite easily as the water is clear that you can see. You can get in by the old bridge by the lagoon then wade over to it.

The rocks also make for decent snorkelling onsite. Here's a snorkelling video I created;

By the way I was born and raised in Burlington :-)

Most of the videos of Riviera Maya area, show that it seems to be windy every day.

Is it best to take Pesos rather than US or CAN dollars to Mexico.

Yep always seems to be a breeze off the Caribbean. It's nice actually...

Yep, pesos are the way to go. However we usually take about $150 in US ones for tips. The resort shops will ONLY accept CDN or Pesos. So CDN is accepted, but you'll see everything priced in either Pesos or US.

If you purchase things with US, you'll take a beating on the exchange. For 2 weeks we'll take about $400 - $500 that we change into Pesos here at our local Scotiabank, plus the $150ish in US funds for tips. There seems to be a shortage of small peso bills (20$ & 50$, roughly $2 & $5 in "Street Value"), that's why we'll take the US ones....

Oh & please don't tip staff in Loonies or Toonies as they are too proud to not accept them, but they can't use them down there. We often come back with about $50 - $60 worth of them we exchange for friends / staff from there...

Hope this helps

LOL, Sorry Jacqui, "Loonies" are what we Canucks affectionately call our $1 coin, Called a Loonie because the depiction of a Common Loon on it.

"Toonies" are our $2 coin. Although it has a Polar Bear depicted on it...
