Royal Suites Yucatan Mosquito's?

Was wondering if with the water all around the resort, ie for kayaking, Is there still water and any significant amount of mosquitos? Have had medical issues due to mosquitos in the past and need to know.

It's the standing/still water that breeds mosquitos. This is a seasonal issue. All resorts spray for them. No-see-ums are actually worse of a year-round pest.

Mosquito-borne illness can occur anywhere in the tropics, with Dengue Fever and Chikungunya Fever being the top headline makers recently.

DEET-containing repellant is recommended. Bring it from home as locally at the resorts, the price is outrageous.

As was said, the resort sprays but you are in a jungle. Mosquitoes tend to be more prevalent after rain. Agree - bring some DEET based repellant and use at dusk/evening.

Sounds more like sand-flea bites...

When are you going? Some seasons are much worse, but some are really OK - very few of them during the winter drier season. Avoid the times at the sunrise/sunset +/- 1 hour and spend more time on the beach closer to the water edge - they do not like wind. When staying at the Royal, we would always leave their designated beach area - big bali beds with the roofs - when it gets closer to the dusk, take the lounger and move it toward the water edge to avoid the mosquitoes increased activity. If you want to walk, walk before dusk, along the high grounds by the salt water pool - it is windy and great there, no insects at all.

Also there are mosquitoes free areas in the lobbies and restaurants, bars.

The water channels for the kayaking are not a problem but standing water at the mangroves is - and it is a common feature of all resorts in Riviera Maya.
