Excurisions, and ideas of day trips

It's been 6 years since we've been to the PV, Bucerias area, and we're looking for ideas of day trips we can do. We like sightseeing, a little shopping (but not too much as we have too many mexican souvenirs already), swimming/beaching, etc.

Please let me know any suggestions you have. We'll be staying in the Nuevo area.

A nice daytrip from NV is Sayulita. It is a quaint, surfing town about 20 minutes by bus north of Bucerias. Fun to watch the surfers, grab lunch on the beach and do a little shopping.

There are several other places worth seeing a little north of Sayulita. These include San Francisco (San Pancho) and Lo de Marcos - both very small towns with beautiful beaches (but the water can be rough). A little further north yet is the larger beach town of Rincon de Guayabitos, which caters to a more Mexican clientele - calm water, lots of food vendors on the beach, etc. it's easiest to reach these places by car - you could either rent one, or hire a taxi for the day. Guayabitos is no more than an hour from Nuevo, and it's an interesting drive.

Another day you could go to El Anclote (near Punta Mita), and charter a local boat from the Cooperativo to take you to the Marieta Islands for some snorkeling. If you don't snorkel, just go for the boat ride itself. If you're there during whale watching season, there's a very high probability of spotting some along the way. The entire boat is around $100 regardless how many people you have, including the use of a mask and snorkel. The boats are a little rustic, but safe. The round trip on the boat is roughly 4 hours. On your way there or back, you could stop in for lunch at La Cruz - several restaurants around, including one at the new marina with a nice view overlooking the ocean.
