The beach is tan sand and the water is not as clear.

If you enjoy long walks on a flat beach and a more of a laid back holiday Nuevo Vallarta is good. There is the small town of Bucerias that has many restaurants/Bars and small shop. PV is a bus or cab ride away.

Puerto Vallarta is the place for shopping and has more of an urban feel.

The month of May is known to have a low rainfall amount which is great for a holiday.

As for safety just use common sense as you would in London or Cancun.

All in all it is safe. Just don’t act like a drunken sailor at 2AM….LOL :)

Buena suerte

Been traveling to the area in May for over 20 years. Great time of year. Hot but not not searing heat or humidity like the summer. As stated, little to no rain.

Nuevo has long flat beaches that you can walk for miles. Taxi to Bucerias is about 120 pesos and to downtown PV about 200 pesos depending on where in Nuevo that you are staying.

Have you looked at any hotels yet? Planning our 6th trip back to Dreams Villa Magna. All junior suites with jacuzzi on the deck. 4 dinner ala cartes with no reservations need, no wristbands, top shelf liquor, great food, buffet for all 3 meals, 24 hour room service and 3 large pools with a great friendly helpful staff whose service is top notch.

Short cab ride to Paradice Village mall heading south, about $3.00 cab fare. Or about $6.00 to Wallmart.

There is also a free trolley that runs on the road in front of the RIU's down to the Paradise Mall and back, There are 2 of them and they run about 15 to 20 minutes apart. There is also a casino 1 block north of the mall.

http://vallartainfo.com/nuevo.html , this map might help.

Riu Vallarta is a great choice.. you can use the Jalisco also. Not the other way around.

As skipper said... Nothing close by... You could walk to the Mega store(move UP on the map)...would take about 1/2 hour.

No direct bus to Bucerias... it goes North only to the riu, circle then up onto highway ,then goes south to Pt.Vallarta.. that is Fun and cheap to do.

Nuevo(new) Vallarta is a long long stretch of beach..with condos,resorts,homes..No REAL town.
