Looking for rv campground recommendations

Hi All

I am looking for advice on campgrounds for a 30' RV that is family friendly around late august at the following places:

- drumheller

- banff

- lake louise

- jasper

I hope some of your local knowledge will make all the difference

Thanks!

If your stay includes the Labour Day long weekend (Sept 1-3), make sure to have campground reservations for those days, and reconfirm the reservations just before you leave home. If the weather is at all nice, every single campsite and room in the national parks is full on those weekends and you can end up at a very unlovely overflow campground or even without a place to camp at all.

If you need full hookups, your only option in Banff is Tunnel Mountain, and in Jasper, it's Whistlers.

The Lake Louise campground is awfully close to the main rail line, and long, heavy, noisy trains can rumble past 24/7/365. If you're a light sleeper, it's best to either avoid it or be prepared with earplugs and/or sleeping medications.

If you're renting an RV or you're new to RVing, have a look at this TripAdvisor Traveller Article on RV rentals for the Rockies:

Traveller Articles are written by TA members just like you and me, in response to the most popular forum questions.

Thanks, Country_Wife and Suiteasitgets, I have since found these sites below but nothing is better than local knowledge :) I appreciate the heads-up on Labour Day weekend:

Thank you for those links, Ausdude! Aside from RVparkreviews.com (which Suiteasitigets suggested in response #1), I hadn't heard of any of them before.

Good Sam Club also has some good listings coverage including reviews, but not as many as RVparkreviews.com: goodsamclub.com/travel/…

I'm surprised that you found the other three websites helpful. I wasn't able to find a single review on any of them, and their coverage was incorrect and incomplete. One of the sites listed two campgrounds for Calgary - both incorrect (one was clearly just a mailing address for a campground at a different location, the other was bulldozed a couple of years ago) - and didn't include the four Calgary-area campgrounds that do exist.

Another website didn't include any listings for the four places that you said you were interested in! And their sole Calgary listing was for a campground located in Waterton Lakes National Park, 3 hours away.

If you're simply looking for a website that lists campgrounds and doesn't include reviews, I strongly recommend http://www.albertacampgroundguide.ca , the official website of the Alberta Hotel & Lodging Association.

If you will be in the national parks for 7 days or more, the annual pass is the way to go (especially if you're planning on visiting Parks Canada-managed national historic sites as well, such as the Banff Museum, Cave & Basin, Gulf of Georgia Cannery in Vancouver). If your time in the national parks will be shorter, then daily passes are a better choice, economically.
