Insurance for car hire.com?.anyone used/ heard North America

I'm in Calgary, renting a car for 3 weeks (even on low term rental!! It's $38/day for loss damage waiver)

I read a review of the above company in The Guarduan but haven't heard of them before. Think they're based in UK.

We do not have creit card coverage (we're Australian)

Any feedback would b great.

Ps I am getting the car with points, we do ave travel insurance but it does not cover loss/damage

Sorry, haven't heard of them. Do you belong to an auto club in Australia? They could probably arrange something for you. Also, you may be covered through existing home or car insurance at home, ask your agent.

You're in Calgary now and it's 4 am in Queensland where posters on that forum (any Aussie forum) who could give you their experience of trips to Canada are sound asleep.

It's notoriously risky to purchase insurance from an online agency. Have you thoroughly read and understood the T&Cs of the policy you are considering?

My strong vote would be to take the solid coverage at $38 a day. Better to pay $600 than end up responsible for potentially $2000-$6000+ of damage. Costly this time but covered for sure. And lesson learned to research much earlier next time.

$800 would be more like it for 3 weeks.

Don't book and pay for your car hire locally. Go on to an Aussie site and pre-book it (which will include CDW/LDW) - vroomvroomvroom.com.au or lastminute.com.au

Lisa, if you are still shopping for car insurance, post on the Australia forum. Just explain why you are asking a Canada question on the Oz Forums. Evening is approaching on the east coast and it would be a good time to catch people who have been to Canada, used rental car insurance and could very likely help you.
