Swimming....?

Are any lakes/rivers/waterfalls in the park warm enough to swim in August?

Ive never seen any swimming anywhere near Banff. Scuba divers frequently go to Lk Minewanka with full wet suits on. I'd stick to the hotel pool or the Hot springs at top of Sulphur Mtn.

The lakes, streams and waterfalls are fed from the mountain snow - they are a little too chilly for swimming.

I understand that one exception is the shallow, manmade Cascade Ponds, on the Lake Minnewanka loop.

The following threads about lake swimming on this forum may help you:

In summary: Johnson Lake, Cascade Ponds, Herbert Lake ... but only if it's a very warm August.

The locals usually go to Johnson Lake, there's a beach there and a ropeswing. It's still pretty cold but if it gets above +30C (which generally happens only for a few days in the summer...), it's nice and refreshing.
