Self Drive trip to Jasper

Retired couple using Banff and Jasper as base for driving trip through Rockies in June. Staying at local BB in both cities so need recommendation on places to purchase picnic lunches for day trips. Another question, different subject.........if our time allows we plan to visit Glacier National Park in Montana. Probably will need to spend the night there. Anyone have recommendations for a place to stay? Are the Red Bus tours there worth it or will a self drive be just as well? Thank you.

The Montana questions need to be asked in the GNP Montana Forum. The link is here:

In Banff, many of the local breakfast hotspots (Melissa's, Cake Company, WildFlour) can make a bag lunch for you while you eat your breakfast there. Or, if you're eating breakfast at your B&B, you can email them to ask if they can provide this service for an extra fee. Or you can pick up lunch supplies at Nesters or Safeway (the two supermarkets in town). You can ask about Jasper on the Jasper forum, or rely on krp329, the Jasper destination expert, to drop by this forum, which she does regularly.

Most grocery stores have a deli section with prewrapped sandwiches and other convenience foods for a nice portable lunch.

In Jasper, you can pick up picnic supplies at either of the local grocery stores - Super A or Robinson's - or you can pick up sandwiches at convenience stores, gas stations, fast food outlets (like Subway), either of the bakeries, or the local deli.

Note that in Jasper, very few of the PHAs (private home accommodations) have a Food Permit, so in most cases, there is no breakfast or any food service provided. There are about ten or twelve homes that do have the food permit, but all of those have the permit that authorizes them to offer continental breakfast only - no hot foods, no cooked foods etc.
