If you will be catching a morning flight out of Calgary, it is best to stay near the airport.

The Delta Calgary Airport Hotel is right inside the airport complex.

Other good hotels that are a short drive from the airport include Greenwood Inn and Hilton Garden Inn.

Down a notch in price, but still decent, is Executive Royal Inn North Calgary.

But I don't know if you need to stay near the airport. Quite a bit of the northeast quadrant, where the airport is located, is a commercial zone, and it is not especially charming. Many UK-bound flights depart in the late afternoon.

If you will be departing in the late afternoon / early evening, you could spend the previous night in downtown Calgary, which is a more interesting area from a visitor's point of view.

If you will be in Calgary on a week night (which is more expensive), you could consider the downtown branches of the Ramada, the Sandman or the Holiday Inn. You should be careful to book at the DOWNTOWN location of your chosen hotel, because all of these chains have properties in other parts of Calgary as well.

If you'll be in Calgary on a weekend (which is cheaper), you probably would find a reasonable rate at a hotel that is more upscale than the previously mentioned ones. I'm thinking of the Marriott, the Hyatt, or the Delta Bow Valley.

If you will be departing on a late afternoon flight, and if you trip will be rushed, you might skip Calgary altogether, and drive straight from Banff to Calgary Airport. That will allow you to soak up the mountain scenery for every available second. If you do that, however, you should leave Banff 5 hours before your flight's departure time. Allow 2 hours for the drive from Banff to Calgary Airport. Allow 2 hours for check in. Allow 1 hour for contingencies.

Hope that helps.
