What time is afternoon rush hour? We're heading from Banff to hotel near airport late afternoon today.

3:30-ish to 5:00-ish. Rush hour traffic on Fridays tends to be lighter than afternoon rush during the rest of the week, as some Calgary employers give their employees certain Fridays off.

If coming in rush hour, you should take the 201, Stoney Trail. Traffic is super-duper smooth there, even during rush hour. Once you get onto 201, you'll drive for a bit, then take the exit to eastbound Trans-Canada Highway, signs to Medicine Hat.

Hope this helps!

Thank you for your helpful information, but I'm afraid that the original poster (OP), Sikevirden, has probably already made their trip. This question was first posted nearly a year ago, in Sept 2012.
