Where to park my RV during the day at Stampede?

I will be attending Stampede 2014 on July 10. I have a truck and fifth wheel and would like to know where I can park during the day (no overnight). I was thinking of Walmart parking lot off Heritage Dr SE or Flying J off Barlow and taking a taxi back and forth. Anybody know of anywhere else I can park my truck and fifth wheel if I cant find a spot?

I've heard that it is hard to find taxis from the Stampede. Your best bet is a parking spot within walking distance of a C-Train (tram) station, such as that Heritage Drive Wal-Mart (Heritage Station), or the Westbrook Wal-Mart (Westbrook Station). You could also try parking at the Brentwood Mall and walking to Brentwood Station; there are signs warning about parking enforcement there, but the main concern is university commuters.

Westbrook would be my last choice, by the way. The other two spots are on the NW C-Train line, which goes directly to the Stampede; Westbrook is on the West line, which means you would have to change to a South (Somerset) train on 7 Ave in downtown.

You could also park near the Rona in the huge Crowfoot shopping centre and walk to the Crowfoot station.

I do realize that the C-Train stations have parking lots, but in my experience, they are usually full by the time I'm heading to Stampede.

Be aware that most parking lots at shopping malls are only for use if you are shopping. You will be ticketed if you leave your vehicle there all day - especially at Westbrook beside the LRT station; they are watching that very closely and I would expect especially during Stampede Week.

I don't know country_wife…I quite like the idea of parking at Westbrook. The Walmart is kinda out of the way…its a huge parking lot, and it never really fully fills up. I'd park more on the south east corner and you shouldn't have any ideas.

Yes, you definitely want to use the Wal-Mart parking lot at Westbrook, because of Wal-Mart's well-known policy of allowing RVs to camp in their parking lots. As for using mall parking for LRT parking, usually (but not always) they are watching for repeat offenders, the regular commuters--and folks who take up prime parking spots. I have, however, heard of cases where security guards watch to see which direction parkers go after they arrive. If you go straight to the train station, you'll get a ticket or get towed.

The spots that I mentioned are a bit of a walk to the station, so they shouldn't be prime targets for enforcement. And if you stop for a coffee in the shopping centre before you go to the C-Train station, that can't hurt either.

I'm in a bit of the same situation as TravellingSierra, the OP. Since I live just outside of Calgary, I can't just catch a bus from my home to the C-Train station. So every year I have to find a place to park that's fairly close to a C-Train station. This year, since I have a car, I'm thinking that I might pay to park at the University of Calgary and catch the C-Train at University Station. Just $6 for all day parking. I'm not sure I'd recommend that to someone from out of town with an RV though, as the U of C campus can be a bit confusing (particularly if you don't know which lots are closest to the station), and I'm not positive you'd find enough space for an RV. It's pretty likely, though, since it's only summer classes.

Thanks for the info. After last years C-train experience where at night we were crammed in the train like it was a cattle car (keeping with the stampede theme I guess) we wanted to avoid the smelly late night drunks that were on our train. You can pick your friends but you can't pick your fellow C-train passengers.

What I decided to do is I called Whispering Spruce campground and storage out by Balzac and they are going to let me park my fifth wheel for a 24 hour period for a couple of bucks. This way I will have my truck to use to go and park right at the stampede. (or maybe try the C-train again)

Another question for you Country_Wife would be I bought tickets for the grand stand show at night through ticketmaster. Does the price I paid include gate admission to the stampede? Thanks for your help.

You can also use the ticket holders line at the Stampede Park entrance, which is faster.

You can also park at Deerfoot Inn & Casino and take a bus from there to the C Train. The same probably goes for the Grey Eagle Casino. Deerfoot is in the South East and Grey Eagle South West.
