Riviera Hotel

There are a couple of hotels on the Calgary Trail I cannot find (on "Earth" or maps) - one is the Riviera Hotel, and the other was one I designed 35 years ago. The second one, whose name I cannot recall, was near the S-bend, was 3 storeys high with a seven storey tower, and an atrium dining area.

If you could answer either Q, a couple of old Edmontonians would be delighted.

I'm wondering if the Riviera Hotel is the southside Ramada? When I stay there and buy something at the adjacent liquor store, it shows up on my credit card statement as "Riviera".

Not sure what you mean by the "S-bend" - ?

Welcome to the TripAdvisor forums, Scrumpypete!

Have you tried using Google Street View to help you out? If you still have a rough memory of the location, you can drag the little yellow person onto the map and then "drive" down the streets, seeing the city as if you were really there. For example, here is Google Street View of the Ramada Edmonton South: http://goo.gl/DqcYr

And this is from a bit further away: http://goo.gl/EqfbR

To "drive" down the street in the second image, put your cursor somewhere on one of the white lines that's floating above the road, and move the cursor along the line until it turns into a circle. Double-click and that will "drive" you ahead to that point, giving you a new point of view.

More about using Google Streetview here:

Also, just at a wild guess, could the 2nd hotel be the Radisson Edmonton South, at 4444 Gateway Blvd? The "Atrium Cafe" makes me wonder:

View from the back (north side), clearly showing the tower: http://goo.gl/9AtP3

And finally, a view from the other side (west side): http://goo.gl/a72xX

Hi Robin and welcome to TripAdvisor! I suspect your post will soon disappear, and would suggest familiarizing yourself with the forum posting guidelines, especially the section for business representatives:

Thank you for the information. This is the first forum I have replied to. I normally respond to guest advisories

I hope that Scrumpypete gets the answers that he seeks. It sounds as though he was involved in the design of the building. I am sure he would be interested to see how it has evolved

Krp329 is right, the Calgary Trail Ramada used to be called the Riviera Hotel.

Just to repeat what Generalmanager4440 (Robin Cumine) wrote in #4 (in case his/her post is removed (because it included well-intended but unsolicited business contact info for the Radisson):

"The hotel that you are referring to was called the Terrace Inn. It became the Coast Terrace Inn and is now the Radisson Hotel Edmonton"
