Jasper in September - Where to go, what to see etc

Hello,

I am visiting Jasper for a few days from 23rd September and was just looking for some help if possible.

I am looking for ideas on where to visit, where to eat, good bars etc. We will be renting a car as we are heading down to Lake Louise / Banff then onto Calgary.

Any help would be apreciated.

Thanks

Vickie

Welcome!

Should be a nice time to visit Jasper - after the summer crowds, but at the time when you might get to see some pretty fall colours. Could be chilly, especially in the early mornings and later in the day, so layers are a must. Days will be shorter, so you will have a tad less time to do things then you would in the summer.

Ideas for things to do...

Hikes or walks epends on the weather and your interest. There are options ranging from short walks right in Jasper townsite to day hikes in the area. I would suggest making your first stop the Parks Canada Centre, where you can pick up maps, get information on closures/restrictions and general advice on hikes. The building also has a nice gift shop run by the local trails association, where you can get info on any guided hikes or special activities etc.. There is also information on the range of local tours, tourist sites etc. and free WiFi.

Miette Hot Springs

Maligne Canyon

Maligne Lake

Go over to Jasper Park Lodge for lunch or dinner, and walk around the lakes there

Others including krp will have better ideas on local restaurants, but I enjoy the Bears Paw Bakery and the Other Paw Cafe for morning nibbles, cookies and simple lunches. The Jasper Brewing Company is nice for beer and an unfancy dinner.

Welcome to the TripAdvisor forums! Jasper is a town of about 5000 people in total, with a seasonal influx of summer tourists and in winter, weekend skiers - so if you are accustomed to big city nightlife, you will find the options here rather limited. The more popular pubs in Jasper are the De'd Dog in the Astoria Hotel, O'Shea's (sports bar) and the AthaB nightclub in the Athabasca Hotel, the Whistle Stop pub at the Whistlers Inn. The AthaB is slanted at the younger crowd (under 30s); the others are all ages.

There are lots of restaurants and you can check out the reviews section here on TripAdvisor to get comments and opinions from people who have eaten at them. tripadvisor.ca/Restaurants-g154918-Jasper_Ja… Perhaps it would be best to have a look through those, and then let us know if you have further questions that we can help you with here on the forums.
