Self drive Calgary jasper.

Planning a trip from Calgary to Jasper in an RV. Made the trip 20 years ago and now returning with spouse and friends. Everyone is retired so we are not on a strict time frame. Would like suggestions on RV parks, sites, and best time to visit with least amount of tourism. Finally, would like to spend one night in the Lake Louise hotel? Is the experience worth the price? One final point we are originating in Alabama, USA so if anyone has suggestions for sites along the way let me know. Thanks

Hi T2Tennis ~

When are you planning to do this visit? And how much time are you allowing? I wonder if you're driving from Alabama, or flying in to Calgary? If you are driving from Alabama, then this might not be the best forum to ask for suggestions about sights along the way. There is the Road Trips Forum where those posters are expert about driving across countries and they will give you some excellent suggestions. Open the following link to that forum:

tripadvisor.com/ShowForum-g1-i12567-Road_Tri…

The drive from Calgary to Jasper could take you 5 hours if you don't stop. There is plenty for you to see and do. So much that you could make one whole 10 hour day to get up to Jasper.

On the Canadian Rockies Forum Top Questions, to the upper right, there is this article about what to see on the Icefields Parkway:

You might also like to have a look at this website as well which shows you another view of the Parkway: www.icefieldsparkway.ca

Unless your RV is winterized, camping season in the Rockies runs from approximately mid-May to mid-October. Once you are within the national parks in the Canadian Rockies, all the campgrounds are owned and operated by Parks Canada - they are mainly natural in appearance, forested campsites, other than one campsite in each park that has serviced sites for RVs. Highly developed "RV parks", with amenties such as Wifi etc. do not exist in the national parks. Many of the campgrounds are only open from early/mid June until Labour Day weekend (first Monday in September) and many of them have sites that are best for RVs under 27 feet in length. You can find a list of all park campsites on the Parks Canada website - www.pc.gc.ca - choose the park that you wish (Waterton, Banff, Jasper, Yoho & Kootenay are all in the Canadian Rocky Mountains), then go to "visitor information/where to stay/camping" to find that specific info.

You may want to consider visiting teh beginning of September when children return to school. There are a lot of RVs (especially Roadtreks) in Banff/LL and Jasper but I can't offer advice on campgrounds.
