Summer Vacation

We are planning to go to BC end of August.

Was thinking of staying a few days on the Island, a few in North Vancouver and then not sure.

Suggestions on places to stay and tour companies that are family oriented. Children are 9 & 6. They love adventure, fishing, walking and swimming.

I'd seriously consider looking into the Okanagan Valley, specifically the towns and cities located on the lakes, like Kelowna, Penticton, Osoyoos, Naramata, etc. It's a very popular family vacation region in BC. At the end of August the temperatures are in the high 20's, early 30's Celsius, and it's a dry heat. The lakes are ideal for swimming. It's also home to Canada's only desert (complete with cactus, rattlesnakes, scorpions). By the end of August, all the road-side fruit stands will be selling fresh produce from the local orchards... (and there are wineries as well). A lot of people from the eastern half of Canada have no idea a place like the Okanagan even exists in Canada.

Thank you for your response. I was looking into that area also. There is so much to see and do.

Loralee,

Another destination which you and your family might enjoy is Shuswap Lake. You can rent a houseboat, if you wish, and your family can spend a few days cruising the huge lake and visiting the various marine parks. Shuswap lake is about a 6-hour drive from Vancouver, so it's a little further than the Okanagan.

How about a killer whale watching adventure? The northern [Port McNeill;] area of Vancouver Island offers great orca viewing, lots of other wildlife, great scenery, some interesting walking trails, good beaches for beachcombing, and the chance to visit some fascinating First Nations sites on nearby islands.

We were out there with friends in late summer a couple of years ago and their 8 and 11 year olds had a good time.

cheers

Jerry
