Summer visit - bear preserves?

We will be in BC mid-June 2008 and would like to visit the bear preserves but don't have time for an extended camping experience. There are 2 adults and 2 teens and I'm sensitive to the costs. Any suggestions about how to do this? Tour operators to contact? etc.

Also, if you'd like to weigh in, the idea is to start in Vancouver, travel up the coast and then inland to Jasper or Banff, do some hiking and return to Vancouver. We have approx 10 days and really don't want to spend much time in Vancouver. All suggestions welcome.

Cheers!

www.kootenayrockies.com = offers several "circle tours". Check out the "Mountains and Vineyard Tour" has great detail - get on "this cirlcle" at Kelowna, head south and then east= down the Okanagan to Rock Creek/Castlgar/Creston; back up to Banff, through Cranbrook/Kimberley/Radium. Will definitely give you a "feel" for the five, or so, mountain ranges between Vancouver and Banff. Site is packed with tons of information w/maps/accomodations/camp ground/sites to see, etc etc.

If you go through Kootenay - get this book for easy strolls to overnight hikes = www.janicestrong.com "Mountain Footsteps".

Goto this link for whatzup in Golden;

http://www.khrl.com/activities = visit "Boo's Home" an enclosed 22 acre Grizzly Bear compound at the Kicking Horse Ski Resort + "Wolf compound" is nearby. . Alpine white water rafting here would be a blast for your teens. . .

Pass through Golden enroute back to Vancouver (on Trans Canada HWY 1) from Banff - or "work" the circle in reverse. . .

Have fun!

Thank you. Golden sounds like an interesting place to hang out for a few days.

Hey

There was a post today in regards to Costco and Alamo Rent-A-Car having a great 2008 weekly rental rate = $167.00 out of Vancouver(??).

Costco is a "shopper's club" in North America - minimal cost to join up = www.costco.ca or .com Alamo.com

Recommend you rent a car and make the route yourselves.

Beaches in Okanagan could be a hit with your kids? They lay on the beach while you hit a couple of vineyards?

Jasper is quite a bit north. . . Any Google search engine provides great mapping service for "free" - Maps = plus turn by turn directions and driving time distances between points. For fun, have a look at "satellite" and "hybrid" images - really lights up topography of areas you visit? = home about your own roof top (?)

Thank you. We were planning to drive ourselves, I thought the tour website offered some good ideas and some great photos. I love the Costco rental car info.
