Arriving to Victoria on July 1st, will there be fireworks?

From ca, we will be arriving to victoria fr Vancouver in the morning of july 1st and leaving via the ferry to Porte angeles on July 3rd. 2 adults and 2'kids (7&3). We will be staying at the empress with high tea and butchart garden package. Tea is scheduled at 11:30am on the 2nd. What do u suggest? We love good food....oyster and good beer for the hubby. Kids friendly environment if possible. Well behaved kids. We have a car. Because we will be driving down the coast of Oregon we want to spend less time in the car if able. I want my husband (our main driver) to enjoy the beauty of Victoria without so much driving. Help please

Since you're staying at the Empress you will be front and center for fireworks as they usually take place in the Inner Harbour. The only time you'll have to get in the car is to get out to Butcharts. Everything you probably want to see is walkable from the Empress. I'll let others answer your beer and oyster question as I don't drink beer or eat oysters!

Ferris Oyster Bar and Grill is the answer. Great spot downstairs for your kids (couple of tables tucked in under an above your head office, have to see it really). Lots of other great spots though. Walking distance from the Empress.

The Bug Zoo is another great spot for your children. Block away from the Empress.

Thanks for all of your help. Can't wait. Fr the other postings, is it a good idea to take the shuttle to BG or drive? We love the local scenes. Any good local eateries that we must visit or do.

July 1st is a Saturday... the Butchart Gardens does fireworks on Saturday, summer months only. You may want to check with them to see if they will be starting July 1st or not. They are great to see as well. You may have to make a choice of which fireworks to watch!

There is a petting zoo in Beacon Hill Park too. And if the weather isn't cooperating, the B. C. Royal Museum is a fantastic place for all ages. They would really enjoy the old town and the fishing cannery, coal mine, etc. Check out what shows are on at the IMAX theater as well.

Here is some information about the 2 shuttle services from downtown to Butchart:

CVS Shuttle from the corner of Government and Humboldt. The entry fee is included in the price, but you are free to wander as you please. You can take any shuttle back to Victoria. Click on the Butchart Garden information to see details of this service.

Gray Line Victoria offers a similar shuttle from the bus depot or from in front of the Empress Hotel. Same deal as the company above. They are seasonal, from about May to about September. Please click on the Butchart Gardens Express to see details of this service.

You would have to look into when last bus from the Gardens would be.

ooops! Well then, make sure you get out to Butchart Gardens on Saturday! Their fireworks are wonderful, set to music, and very entertaining. Take a blanket, even a towel, and set it down somewhere on the grass, then go walk around the gardens. Don't worry about the towel/blanket. Every one leaves them there to set out their "space". Then after the fireworks, you can walk through the gardens one more time with it all lit up to give the "crowds" an opportunity to leave, then you can leave when you are ready, or just leave with the crowds, and the 3 year old can sleep in the car for the drive back to the hotel. Then you can watch the fireworks again on Sunday!
