Time to kill in Vancouver

We have a week in Vancouver coming up at the end of September and wanted some ideas of things to do, (the cheaper the better). We are already planning a day trip to Whistler on the Grey Hound bus, a day in Stanley Park. Can anybody give us some other suggestions?

Rent some cheapo bicycles-go down to the corner of Georgia & Denman and walk east on Denman toward Robson comparing prices and don't be afraid to bargain be sure there's no minimum and that helmets are included then proceed to circumnavigate Stanley Park and continue on around the False Creek Seawall to Granville Island & beyond.

For free activities, head out to our many beautiful parks for spectacular coastal views and towering trees. First step to keeping costs down is to get familiar with our public transit system. They have a page dedicated to destinations around the city, so you might want to look at that.

You can hike up Grouse Mountain for free on the Grouse Grind and then just take advantage of the activities up there. Keep in mind that the Grouse Grind is a serious and gruelling hike and not to be undertaken lightly. Quite doable if you are fit and dressed appropriately, locals do it as a fitness activity.

Minor League hockey games should be starting and are quite cheap (~$15).

We don't have any major free museums unfortunately.

Walking on to the ferries for a trip across the water is also a nice way to spend a day. You could do a day trip to Bowen Island, the Sunshine Coast or even go across to Victoria using public transit and walking on the ferry.

Definitely a day trip to the Sunshine Coast. 40 minute ferry ride only $15/pp return trip. Catch transit when you arrive to explore Gibsons & Sechelt. Endless free hiking, stroll the marina & public beaches, window shop, and visit small artist galleries while you escape the city crowds and enjoy the view.

Ut oh, anyone who thinks time in Vancouver is about killing time is seriously misguided! :-)

You could look into The Tour Guys who give hour long tours around Vancouver, only for tips.
