Good campgrounds

We are looking for good campgrounds for tent camping around Vancouver island. We want to be able to hike, be near the water, possibly kayak. Any good suggestions. Thanks.

Have a look at the BC Provincial Parks website: www.env.gov.bc.ca/bcparks/explore/map.html

There are 167 Provincial Parks on Vancouver Island. That doesn't include the National park campgrounds, private campgrounds or camping on native land. Its a very, very long list. Can you perhaps narrow down your request or be a bit more specific in what you are looking for?

This is pretty overwhelming. We would love a campsite on or near the ocean that is within about 2-3 hours of Vancouver. We just need a single tent site. Thanks for your suggestions.

Hi hannah ~

We really need to get clear on something. At first you said Vancouver Island, now you are saying Vancouver. So it will be helpful if you could let us know what your starting point is because Vancouver Island is 4 hours by car and ferry from Vancouver.

What city will you be starting from to go to this campsite?

On Vancouver Island, that would be Parksville, Rathtrevor Beach. But it is 100% reservable. What time of year are you coming?

Actually, I can think of quite a few places here, but we do need more information from you, otherwise we are just guessing.

Ok, so leaving Vancouver, traveling to Vancouver Island and not wanted to travel more than 2-3 hours. That pretty much puts you right at the ferry terminal on the island. Joan's suggestion of Rathtrevor is a good one, you might also look around the Saannich Peninsula or perhaps one of the Gulf Islands. I really like Montague Harbour, but its a very small campground, so as mentioned, your timing will be critical to answering the question.
