how many days in Kelowna?

We have a place to stay and can stay for a couple of days or as long as a week.

How much time would you suggest we spend in this and the surrounding area, using this as a base.

We are active - love wine, lakes, cycling, hiking

Honestly? If you've got the week, go with the whole week. It takes 2 hours, for example, to drive from Kelowna to the southern end of the Okanagan Valley. There are at least 100 wineries in between Kelowna and there, not to mention all the lakes in the area, and the hiking/cycling opportunities

You could spend

Day 1: on the beach (Gyro Beach in Kelowna) on Lake Okanagan and/or boating

Day 2: winery tour around Kelowna/Summerland

Day 3: winery tour around Naramata/Penticton

Day 4: Hiking/cycling (perhaps the Kettle Valley Railroad trail network?)

Day 5: Daytrip to Osoyoos for wineries, lakes, hiking (and the Desert Cultural Centre)

Day 6: Day on the lake by Penticton (on Skaha Lake)

Day 7: Whatever you wanted more of in the previous days.

Check 2 sites www.KelownaEvents.info and www.castanet.net for things going on in the city during your visit.

Hi

you are showing up in what we call the shoulder season so not much happening for events but on the weekend there is the Farmers Market in Downtown Penticton on saturday morning; that is worth a visit especially on a non rainy day as there is entertainment-produce-food-crafts.

After the market you could visit Naramata and all the wineries and orchards along the way with lunch at the Bistro on Vancouver Hill.

During the week you could visit the Dominion Radio Observatory at White Lake on the west side of Okanagan Fall http://goo.gl/maps/wcQLT and do the circle loop with a stop at SeeYaLater winery.

for hiking or biking look at the KVR trails, an abandoned rail line which has the Myra Canyon Bridges.

and, you have wineries to visit http://www.okanaganwines.ca/wineries/ some notables for the view and the buildings Summerhill ; Mission Hill; Quails Gate; Poplar Grove; Red Rooster; Burrowing Owl; TinHorn Creek, N'Kmip.

Is it still warm enough to be at the beach? Not sure what to pack, either.

Typically our weather would be mid 20's with occasional showers. For some it is still beach weather. The only suggestion is bring some rain gear just in case of showers. There probably is a site somewhere that would give you long range forecast for Kelowna area. Enjoy your stay.
