1 night hotel near Nanaimo ferry back to Vancouver?

Hi all - 2 adults and 8 yr old on Vancouver Island for a week.

We are driving from Telegraph Cove to Nanaimo on 7/4 to take early am ferry 7/5 back to Vancouver. Can anyone suggest a hotel for 7/4 nite that is close to ferry and not a econolodge type place? we're on holiday and would like our last night to be fun experience.

Also, if you know drive time from Telegraph Cove to Nanaimo that would be great!

Thanks

from TC to Nanaimo will be about 4 hours drive time... possibly less if you're on the inland hwy 19.

tons of varied hotels in Nanaimo..have you checked the green hotels list at the top of the Nanaimo page?

You could also look at staying in Parksville which isn't that long of a drive to Nanaimo..need to be up a bit earlier. Hope you have a ferry reservation for the Sat.

Perhaps consider a B&B ? bbcanada.com/british_columbia/…nanaimo

You could even look at staying in Ladysmith just down the road.

Definitely not a Ecnolodge experience.

Thanks for info. I should have mentioned we have a 7:45 am freat Duke Point on 7/5. That's why I'm thinking the closer we are to the ferry the better, but it doesn't look like many options out there?

Really appreciate your help!

So you have a reservation for the 7:45 am ferry? Means you need to be at the pay booth between 6:45 and 7:15 ...not 1 minute later. Good news is you can get breakfast on ferry. Not really any "luxe" hotels in Nanaimo and b&b will probably want 2 nights.

Is there a particular reason you booked Duke Point rather than Departure Bay?

Maybe a business hotel, but the Coast Bastion is a steady eddie of well located downtown Nanaimo hotels: coasthotels.com/hotels/…

Traveller 47 -

We booked Duke Point b/c we are heading down from Telegraph Cover on 7/4 to catch the 7:45am ferry on 7/5 back to Twassan(spelling bad) and driving down to Bellingham, WA(1.5 hours) to catch evening flight back to Oakland.

Earlier Tripadvisor folks recommended Duke Point.

Is Departure Bay a better option for us? If so, I'll see if we can get a reservation from Departure Bay. We have the reservation at Duke Point but just a $15 deposit so will switch if better option.

Thanks for your help!

Duke Point keeps you out of morning commute traffic. Good route for Bellingham.

For sure Duke Point is your better option considering you're heading for the border. If you were spending time in Vancouver then it would be different. It's always nice to have a really nice hotel on last night of vaca but I think you'll find something in Naniamo..

If you have time after you cross the border you could stop into Fairhaven for a late lunch. It's the south end of Bellingham and has a great little square. Excellent book stores , lots of artist stores and some good lunch spots...plus a really nice boardwalk along the bay for a last stroll before you hit the airport. Bellingham airport is quite small and pretty limited for food options.

Thanks for your help. I'm now thinking if its 6-7 hours from TC to Nanaimo, and we'll be up and out to ferry by 630am. we'll likely not be spending enough time in Nanaimo to worry about it. I'd just like to be within 15 min. drive time of Duke Point ferry to minimize any stress that AM.

Thanks for input re Fairhaven. That sounds like a great way to "end" our trip!

No it's not 6-7 hours from TC to Nanaimo! ..only 4 tops! Stop along the way..Rathtrevor Beach is a good stop.

The 6-7 is drive time from Tofino to TC.

But yes you won't be in Naniamo that long..hard to be 15 minutes from ferry but downtown won't be that far from ferry. You can always do the Nanaimo bar trail lol. Get a sugar high before bedtime :)
