If you manage to secure accommodation close to the Ironman transition area,

(if you haven't done so already, you may be out of luck), you will be close

to several things to do with the kids. The transition area is at the beach

with a park right there, plus a water park down the street. The park a the transition area will be loaded with entertainment, vendors, etc. during the days surrounding Ironman. A bit further walk down the street to mini-golf, bumper boats, climbing wall, bicycle rentals (they carry up to 6 people), restaurants, etc. Penticton is a small

town located on the 5 miles of land between 2 lakes so nothing is more than 5 miles away, in Penticton. You are going to love it but as I said, if you don't already have accommodation, you may be going elsewhere.

If you are unable to secure the accommodation you want in Penticton, quickly look in Oliver and Osoyoos -- especially Osoyoos -- about a half-hour drive south from Penticton - the two Os are very small towns -- Oliver is a centre for grapes and wineries - Osoyoos is at the US/Canadian border and built on the shores of the warmest lake in (I think) North America - a great place to take kids - I've never seen kids who got soooooooooo tired of going to the beach in a week that they had to commute to other entertainment -- both the Os are hot and dry and sunny -- hire a couple of sitters for the kids and go to the Ironman stuff and then come back and swim and enjoy your children - after you feed the kids dinner - go out yourselves at least once to the Burrowing Owl Winery in Oliver and have a dinner that you'll remember for a long time --

Try Krazymoose.com for accommodation in Okanagan Falls, 10 or 15 mins. from Penticton, or ownerdirect.com ; there are fully furnished condos available, with pool, although most may be booked by now. Beaches right there, too.
