Place to stay with character

Will be in Vancouver May 31-June 4 for a conference taking place at the Hyatt Regency (655 Burrard Street). Would much prefer to stay somewhere with character within 6-8 blocks of the Hyatt. Can anyone recommend a charming B&B or small hotel under $300? Also will be traveling just for fun afternoon of 6/4 through 6/7, fly home 6/8. Debating between trying to do west coast of vancouver island, or Victoria and San Juan islands. Opinions? Recommendations? Thanks a bunch for any guidance - first time visitor and I can't wait!

No B&B that close-Vancouver is small but not that small.

Maybe have a look at O'Canada B & B. It is located 5 minute walk from Robson Street and has a lot of character and we were never disappointed with any of the 6 breakfasts we had there.

By "character" do you mean something very trendy, or something with more history behind it?

I like the Sylvia Hotel in English Bay. It's about a 10 min. walk to the Hyatt (or take a bus or taxi), and it's right on the waterfront. It was building at around 1914 or so, and it's really interesting and historical.

For a more modern, trendy hotel, Opus Hotel is suppose to be nice. Also, a 10 min walk.

An option for visiting Victoria would be to take a float plane from downtown Vancouver to downtown Victoria. It's a great way to get there quickly (30 min flight) and visit the area.

There are a couple of great B+B's in the West End, especially if you're budgeting up to 300$

The Sylvia does have a lot of character, but it is a lot further than a 10 minute walk from the Hyatt! I'd estimate the walk would take at least 40 minutes. By taxi, however, you could get between the 2 in 10 minutes.

O'Canada House, the West End Guest House, and Barclay House are all B&B's in the west end relatively close to the Hyatt. You could easily walk there and it would be an easy, leisurely stroll. Keep in mind that downtown, our city blocks are tiny, so while they may technically be further than 6 blocks, if it takes 1-2 minutes to walk the length of one block downtown, you're talking relatively tiny distances regardless.

If you want a district with character, try the Times Square Suites. This place is suites only but is within easy walking distance to all areas of Stanley park, and lots of coffee shops and restaurants from which to select.

The Hyatt would be a long walk from here, but I have walked to GM and BC Place from here.

Times Square to the Hyatt is about a 20 minute walk.
