I'm going from LAX to Hong Kong with a layover in Vancouver for 4 hours.
Can I buy stuff at the Vancouver airport with US dollars?
yes you can. The exchange rate has been at par so especially at the airport your paper $$ can be used. Go to oanda.com and look at the traveler cheat sheet to see what the rate actually is but the exchange has always been pretty fair at YVR.
Or use your credit card.
sure, as the post above says-use your credit card-that has to be the most convenient-if you have the Capital One card-you won't pay any transaction fees!
As the above poster has mentioned, most places in YVR accept US currency at par. There are also several places to change cash if needed.
Welcome to the VANCOUVER TRAVEL FORUM.
I suggest that you start by reading this CANADA - TRAVELLER ARTICLE entitled *Banks & Money* = tripadvisor.com/Travel-g153339-s601/Canada:B…
It will give you all the basics. A Credit Card or using an ATM to take out money is the easiest and best solutions for most Travellers (and certainly someone like yourself who is in-transit).
Hope this is helpful,
