Melville & Jervis location

I'm considering an apartment rental for our 5 day family vacation to Vancouver. It's in Coal Harbor, located near Melville & Jervis St. Can anyone comment on how accessible and safe this location is? We won't be renting a car. Is it a good place for a tourist?

This location is a great one in downtown Vancouver. Steps to the seawall along Coal Harbour, short walk to Stanley Park, the Seabus or shopping, lots of restaurants nearby. Safe as safe can be. A good place for a tourist.

I think this is a great location. You are 1 block from buses on Georgia Street, a 10-minute walk to the Sky Train (or hop a bus), a 15 minute bus ride to the North Shore, 3 blocks from Robson Street and its huge variety of restaurants, walking distance to Stanley Park, close to the sea wall. It's a safe neighbourhood with lots of residents.

Melville and Jervis are perfectly fine. Go to Google Street view and look around. You don't say if you have other areas in mind to compare. The only thing is that if you plan to walk to the beach it's a bit of a trek. Go south on Jervis until you hit water. Going north on Jervis takes you to the seawall as well but no beaches. I would use this route though to get to Stanley Park rather than walking down Hastings, W. Georgia and Pender since these are busy main roads. For groceries your nearest market is Urban Fare at W.Cordova and bute. A smaller version of their other stores, but stocks everything ( except alcohol). It's upscale and pricier than your second choice which would be a very large Safeway at Robson and Denman.

FYI, while there is not sand at the nearby seawall, there is a large grassy park area where people sit out and watch the ocean. This area is a little quiet in comparison to others in downtown, but it is close enough to walk to everything.
