Suggestions for overnight stop in Vancouver

We're flying to Alaska via Vancouver, and will be having an overnight stop (arrive Vancouver airport around 6.30pm, flying out at 11am the next day).

Can anyone suggest a good place to stay? Is it worth travelling to the city just for one night (and if so how do we get there without a car), or would we be best staying in a hotel near to the airport with free shuttle transportation, such as the Coast Vancouver Airport? As it's only one night, we want something inexpensive but comfortable.

I would suggest staying in Richmond (the city that the Airport is in). If you really want, you can travel into Vancouver from Richmond via taxi or public transit... but for one night, it is probably not worth it.

Most (if not all) Richmond hotels have a free airport shuttle, but double check before you book so you know for sure!!

The Coast Vancouver Airport that you refer to is actually in Vancouver, but not downtown... it may be a good option for you if you want to do dinner in Vancouver or something.

Fairmont Vancouver Airport is located right at YVR and is first class. If your budget is a little more limited there are several medium-priced hotels nearby with free shuttles -- Comfort Inn, Hampton Inn, Sandman, Travelodge, etc. Some offer free breakfast too. River Rock Casino is nearby in Richmond and has good restaurants as well as gambling and live entertainment - might be something to do for the evening.

To travel downtown would take 20-25 minutes and about $25 by cab - probably not worth it just for an evening.

Too bad you only have one evening, but if you are not too tired I would make the effort to travel downtown and have a quick look around.

If you stay at the Coast, as them about the B Liner. It is part of our transit system. This bus takes about 25 minutes to get downtown and is about $3.25 per adult one way.

I would not come downtown. Not worth it, considering the tight turn around, plus the $30.00 in cab fees each way. For inexpensive hotels near the airport, try the Sandman, Travel Lodge, Best Western, etc....there are all kinds near the airport, I am sure you will find something it the $100-$120CDN range plus tax.

If you are going to stay in the ricmond/Airport area,I would not stay at the Coast Hotel.I have and did not enjoy the facility or the location. If you can afford it, the Fairmont in the airport is awesome.Another favorite of mine is the Delta at the Airport.Other than the Fairmont being right in the airport the Delta is the nearest,it is reasonably priced, close to the airport,it is right on the river, and has restaurants, pub etc.Of course free shuttle.

Free shuttle service between airport and Hilton, Marriott and Richmond Inn, which share the same city block, and close to a large shopping mall surrounded by good restaurants. Comfort Inn, Executive suite, etc, are one more block away.

Try the Holiday Inn Express in Vancouver.

Good rates with beakfast

wwww.hievancouver.com.

They have free shuttle to and from the airport, downtown and the cruiseship center.

Enjoy the cruise!!!
