Where can I find a beavertail?

We were discussing Canada day on the London forums and someone mentioned beavertails. On my past visits to BC I've not come across them (I gather they're more common in Ontario?) but one of our DEs (a Vancouverite) mentioned that she'd seen them at Lonsdale Quay somewhere. Can anyone elaborate or suggest somewhere specific?

I'll be staying around Robson in mid September so anywhere downtown is ideal, though I don't mind the trip over the harbour to Lonsdale Quay as I usually go there anyway.

They're definitely an Ontario phenomenon, for sure. The only place I've seen them have been on top of Grouse Mountain or at the PNE (local fair), but even then, I think they're sometimes referred to as "Whales Tails" here. Either way, they're not very common, but they do make appearances as obligatory novelty food.

i'm from ottawa where they are very common, have never seen them here, i always associate them with skating on the canal and other typically ( as in everywhere in Canada except here) winter activities that suit that climate , that we just don't have

Vancouver Folk Festival, maybe the PNE-as mentioned look for Whale's Tails.

Honestly I can't see anyone going out of their way to eat a slab of deep fried dough dusted with sugar-although being from the UK you are accustomed to consuming fried stodge.

You might also post your question on the British Columbia Board in -

I've noticed that some of the participants on the BC TA forums also participate on Chowhounds. However, you will also reach a variety of others who are food-focussed.

Oi! I'm not from Scotland! ;-)

Seriously, it's just something we don't have here so I wanted to try it once. I love the range of sushi places in Vancouver so I normally eat healthily, but you just have to be a glutton once in a wee while.

Thank you all, Lonsdale Quay it is. :-)

(I won't even mention that I've not had poutine yet in over a dozen visits). :-O

My favourite lunch at the Quay: A bowl of fresh soup from the Soup Meister stand, an apple cinnamon beavertail and a hot cuppa. Hhhummmm-hhhummmm Good.
