Where to meet locals

Hi

I was wondering if anyone could tell me if there's ways to meet up with locals in Vancouver. I'm not talking dating or anything like that but I've previously had great fun with Volunteer guides in NYC (Big Apple Greeter) and Singapore and Hong Kong (Via www.hieverywhere.com but it doesnt seem like this site is used by many Canadians). One of the reasons why I like to travel is to meet new people and share views on life and of course get introduced to their favourite spots of the city they live in. Obviously I would be more than happy to do the same in Denmark :o)

Another question

I've found this company that organise trips around Vancouver http://discoverholidays.ca/MapIndex.php. I've considered the "Sea to sky", "Rockies Panorama" and the "Spectacular West" tour but I'm really not sure what to choose if any. Any input will be appreciated :o)

One possibility for you to find others to enjoy time with might be this website. It has meetup groups of all sorts, so you would need to look through. There is the option at the very top to select "find groups". I tried "slow pitch" and "hiking" in the search bar under the Find a Group tab.

http://www.straight.com/ This is a weekly, free newspaper, that lists many events and happenings in the Vancouver area.

I had a look at discover holidays and found myself giving it a C or C+. There is no clear outline of where you will actually stop along the way to visit or what your activity would be if you do stop. The descriptions are lovely, but just from the bus? I like the one that describes golf in Whistler, but would that be part of your tour? or just part of the hype for Whistler?

I suggest you look at Brewster's. www.brewster.ca. You could look at their Vacations Canada link where you can choose tours by destination and departure cities, or by title.

The hieverywhere website looks really interesting. It's the first I've heard of it. Great for single travellers to share time with locals whereever they travel. Could be very much like the NYC greeters with a different scale/scope.

Have you considered spending a night or two at a hostel? They have great organized tours daily and you will always meet like minded travellers of all different walks of life. In addition to travellers, it is a great way to get out with a group and meet locals as well.

Also, try a Vancouver Food Tour www.vancouverfoodtour.com as she takes groups out and you will likely meet some people that way.

Another idea if you like organized sports, you could take a look at some of the drop in classes and sports games at some of the community centres here http://vancouver.ca/parks/cc/ this is an amazing way to meet local people!

I would DEFINITELY do one of those tours! Perhaps one of the 4 day tours to really get a good idea! Banff is amazing and not to be missed and seeing the Okanagan will be great! I think those sound really great! They sounds really fun! Just decide which one excites you the most.

If it's a nice day, you can go to the PNE. The first day has a concert with Bryan Adams and the Beach Boys.

Two other options would be the beach or a Starbucks/coffee place as long as the people aren't too busy looking at their laptops. You could also ask at the Tourism Vancouver office for suggestions when you get here.
