Granville Island Restaurant

I am looking for a recommendation for a casual Granville Island restaurant for dinner on a Friday night. We like all kinds of food. Looking for something unique and not to expensive - $20 per person? Thanks.

$20 pp might be a bit of a challenge in this town, unless you go along the lines of Japanese or Indian/South Asian. You must add 12% HST to the base food and drink price.

But FWIW, here's a unique idea on GI. The Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts puts on a buffet on Friday nights for $30 + HST. (The students are well supervised, so no worries there! lol) On the following link, look on "Hours" to see the buffet info.

Are you going to a show on GI? You might have more choice a few km west on 4th Ave or Broadway.

You'll get lots and lots of suggestions from others who will come on shortly.

$20 is a low target but there is a Keg and while its a 'chain' its very very good and causual. Everything from Hamburgers to basic steak but its going to be more like '$25 on up

15 min walk or so from GI, you would find:

The Smoking Dog on 1st Ave @ Cypress:

Rocky Mountain Flatbread on 1st Ave @ Cypress:

Earl's on Broadway @ Fir:

Rangoli (next to Vij's) on 11th Ave & Granville:

Here's the map location of Pac Inst of Cul Arts. If you drag the map around you will find the others mentioned above as well.

Granville Island shops close at 6 pm this time of year, 7 pm during tourist season. It's pretty dead in the evening.

Edit: the balloon showing the PICA did not come through. It's on 2nd Ave, east of Fir St.

Bridges is not bad, but I personally find it a bit of a barn. Worth a consideration for sure. The Bistro menu (downstairs) shows prices around $19-24 but the restaurant menu does not show any prices at all. Nice lookout on the water though if you can swing a window seat from the resto upstairs.

Right @ the entrance to GI

BTW-I live nearby and not one of the places mentioned upthread fits your financial criteria- not even the ones off-island-for you this is an expensive 'hood.

Just to clarify, I checked out every menu in #4 before posting for <$20 offerings. With the exception of the PICA.

I agree Sam it's an expensive neighbourhood. For Bridges I meant the pub for wings or dry ribs and a couple of beer. The unique part the OP asked for would be the setting looking out at False Creek, not the food. Might be a bit of barn Mufti, wouldn't disagree, but it's a barn with a nice view!

Sammy J Peppers is under heavy renovations as of this afternoon-and the sign is gone.

There's also Oyaji Zushi on 2nd Ave and Appolonia Greek on Fir St right around the corner.

I've also eaten @ the College and while the food was ok it wasn't in any way a welcoming place.

The Keg has been very hit 'n miss over the years but that's to be expected from a chain.

And OP shouldn't forget the 12% tax on food.
