My Vancouver Itinerary - Doable?

I’ll be coming to Vancouver next month for a travel blog conference. I made a generic itinerary and wanted some feedback. The conference is at the Vancouver convention center, so hopefully I’ve structured my itinerary to be manageable for each day.

Does anyone have any suggestion on things I should move around because of time and distance? Or something I’ve missed and should definitely include? I’m only there for 5 days out of which 2 days are conference stuff.

Thanks guys!

How are you getting to Bowen Island? If you are taking transit, I don't think you have time to fit that in. I would suggest that either doing a kayak trip right from Granville Island (as you are there anyway) or going out to Deep Cove for a kayak trip would be more realistic. I love Bowen Island, but if you are going there, you need to put aside most of a day to fit it in.

Hmm.. I have a friend who lives in vancouver so I'm not sure how we were planning to get to Bowen Island. But if its going to be a day thing, then you're right. I won't have time to fit it in. Darn.. I really wanted to go to AN island while I'm in Vancouver =o(

Consider the bike trip described in Top Questions. That gets you around the park, along English Bay and onto Granville Island and back. That would fill day 2 and accomplish much of your list and more. It would provide the orientation for how you would spend day 5.

There's a ferry Granville Island/Bowen Island has been for a while now.

It serves mainly a commuter market and but midday/midweek should be fine.

You might have to move things around depending on the weather. If it's raining or cloudy on the day you arrive it's pointless to go up Grouse unless you like looking down on the city shrouded in clouds. Same thing with the kayak unless you don't mind paddling in the rain?

You should have your friend take you to Deep Cove to do the kayak there, if it's a nice day you can grab some grub and have a picnic on one of the islands there. You can still claim you went on a island albeit a tiny one.

For Day 2, I would suggest you consider doing Bowen first. You can get an early #257 Horseshoe Bay Express bus (43 minutes) to HB for the 20 minute ferry to Bowen. You catch it on Georgia @ the west side of Seymour. An hour down. Do your kayaking and come back on a later Bowen ferry. Another hour travel.

Here is the schedule so you can plan which ferries you want to take.

bcferries.com/schedules/…biva-current.html

Later in the day you could visit GI, open until 6 for sure, not sure when the summer closing of 7 pm kicks in. Then you can do the Kits Beach no matter if things are open or not.

Sunset in June starts out at 9 pm and extends to 9:21 by the end of the month.

thank you both! i think bowen island first is a good idea. i've switched it and sent it to my friend to figure out the logistics.

as for deep cove, i'm not sure how far that is. What day could I fit that in? And agreed on the weather call -- I'll have to switch things around depending on the weather, but its good to have a guideline.

Here's Deep Cove by bus from Lonsdale Quay. If you go by car it's about 20 minutes drive.
