Hotel near Victoria Ferry

We will be traveling from Vancouver Airport to downtown in 7/22. The next morning we will be taking the ferry to Victoria. Can you please give us some hotel options that would work so it would be easy to get to the ferry. I'm really not sure what part of Vancouver the ferry terminal is located in. Thanks for your continued help.

The ferry terminal is called the Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal which is located in the suburbs, about a 40 minute drive south of downtown Vancouver. There is a Coast Hotel in Tsawwassen that would put you within 5 minutes of the ferry terminal. The problem is, there's not a whole lot there in comparison to staying in Vancouver itself. There's Centennial Beach which is one of the nicest swimming beaches in the Greater Vancouver region, a strip mall of restaurants and grocery stores along the main boulevard in Tsawwassen... as long you're okay with that.

Are you renting a car or planning to go over to Victoria as a foot passenger? If not renting a car, you could stay downtown and take the Pacific Coach Lines bus. They leave from the main bus terminal, which is a quick taxi ride from downtown. (You don't want to stay around the terminal. There's nothing much there.) -

The bus goes right onto the ferry, with your luggage securely stored underneath in their compartment. You just climb back on at the end of the ferry ride for the trip into downtown Victoria.

Allow about 4 hours to get from Vancouver to Victoria. The ferry ride itself is about 90 minutes. The ferry docks at Swartz Bay, about 35 - 40 minutes north of Victoria.

Hi loveto ~

Did you decide on either the Hampton or 910 Beach for the night? Do you still have the half day in Vancouver? And no car still?

Not sure if you are still doing all that, or are wanting to change to a hotel near the airport. From Vancouver to the airport is about 30 minutes. and another 15 or so further south to the ferry terminal.

Here's a map showing Van, YVR and Tsawwassen ferry terminal, FYI.

There are a couple of ways to get to the ferry terminal without a car. You could take public transit: Canada Line (back toward the airport) to Bridgeport Station which is near the airport, then transfer to the #620 Tsawwassen terminal bus (about an hour's ride.) It takes you to the ferry at about 25 min to sailing so you can buy your tickets and do the walkway to the ramp onto the ferry. Then on the other side, you would walk off the ferry at Swartz Bay and catch the #70 bus all the way down to Victoria (about an hour's ride.)

Another way is by Pacific Coach. You catch this bus at Pacific Central Station (on our other skytrain line) and it takes you out to Tsawwassen, onto the ferry and continues on the other side right down to Victoria. About 4 hours altogether. Your luggage goes under the bus for the duration. You go up on deck to enjoy the scenery. The busses run every two hours, even though the ferry runs every hour in the summer. I personally can't speak highly enough of PCL for its convenience, driver expertise and comfort.

Here's how you would get to Pacific Central Station from Waterfront.

If you are staying at the Hampton, you would walk a couple of blocks to Stadium Station on the same line, instead of Waterfrong. If you are staying at 910 Beach, you would be best to take a taxi to Pacific Central Station. ~ $12-14

If you don't come into Vancouver for the half day and the night, and stay instead near the airport, you will miss our city. However, you would be able to catch the PCL bus at the airport, just check the PCL website for the YVR-Victoria bus service. You could also take the same #620 bus to the ferry from nearby Bridgeport Station. For either option, you would need to arrange the hotel shuttle to take you.

Edit to note Itchy posted while I was typing.

Thanks for the map and directions. It definately helped put it in perspective. We will be using Pacific Coach as our means of transportation and I think we will be coming into the city. Still deciding on the hotel, but since downtown is no where near the ferry it makes the decision easier!
