Flying into YVR - how to get to Chilliwack?

Hi, we are flying into YVR and then needing to get out to Chilliwack. We won't have a car but wonder if it would be cheapest/most convenient to just rent one? We'll have a car to use once we get there. Is there a bus from the airport that goes to the Valley or would you have to get to the main Vancouver Bus Depot?

Thanks for any suggestions...

It would be best to rent a car since-

1-there's no bus from YVR to the Fraser Valley.

2-the one 'transfer company' is just a guy with a car who sleeps late.

3-public transportation in.around the valley itself is sporadic @ best.

Note that renting from the YVR Budget franchise has proved to be a very unhappy experience for many people-Not Recommended.

Your one public transit option would be Greyhound bus. Where are you flying from? It would be easier if you landed at Abbotsford airport rather than Vancouver airport.

Thanks SamSalmon... I think I was coming to this conclusion too. Our London friends asked if they could take a taxi but that was $150+ and the bus situation was a crazy mess of transferring from one mode of transport to another which isn't fun with luggage. I thought there just might be some private bus service or something. Thanks again for responding so quickly,

Baron

I'm guessing flights are already booked, but it is possible to fly into Calgary, and then change planes and get a flight to Abbotsford, which is about an hour closer to Chilliwack.

Wow, thanks everybody for all your help. Actually, we won't be in town so can't pick them up and they are coming from Britain so a direct flight to Abi won't work - not quite that "international". But, after finding out that Greyhound doesn't even run out of YVR (according to their customer service) and then trying to get info about getting to the main bus terminal from YVR to catch a bus (via several hops on the rail system) one really helpful coach guy suggested ... http://www.airportlinkshuttle.com

For $120/couple this shuttle picks you up from YVR and drops you off at any address ... even as far out as Chilliwack. Door to Door service. This is by far the cheapest, not to mention most convenient way to get out to the valley from the airport. Well, getting on the Canada Line, then transferring to another line, then arriving at the main bus terminal to get the Grey hound would have been cheaper but way more confusing and time consuming for an international travellor not to mention inconvenient when you have luggage.

Anyway, I put this in to help anyone trying to get to the valley from YVR. Thanks again for all the input ... Baron

I would check out which transport company Sam was referring to. Does it match the link you have posted?

You might consider this idea. Take a taxi from YVR to Pacific Central Station, about $35-40 and 35 minutes. Take the Greyhound from PCS to Chilliwack (looks like a couple of Chilliwack drop off points), about a 2 hour journey. There are 14 departure times from PCS for a random day next week. Fare choices between $12 and $20. There's a coffee shop in the station.

If the shuttle is not the company that Sam is talking about, that looks like a good option.

The transit option isn't that difficult or that bad. If they can navigate the Tube then our system is a piece of cake. Unlike the tube we actually have elevators and step free access on our system so hauling luggage is very easy. Transit would be $7.50 or $8.75 per person depending on the day and time. Probably around 45 minutes from airport to the bus terminal.

If that seems too complicated then follow Mufti suggestion and take a taxi to the bus station.
