Driving Banff to Vancouver

We are driving to Banff and staying in Salmon Arm on the way. On the trip back to Vancouver its it wise to take a different southern route? I see that it is longer, but I hate to come back the same way we went. If we do the southern return route, where is a good place to spend the night. Additionally, what shouldn't we miss if we take that route? Thanks in advance for any insights!

Which highways are you taking to go to Banff? There are a few different ways to do that. It would help to know so that we don't duplicate something.

If you want 2 different routes and staying in SA you can take highway 5until you turn off onto the Okanagan connector and travel east through the Okanagan to SA. Continue east on Highway1 to Banff return by going north from Lake Louise to Jasper and return on the Yellowhead to Kamloops and take highway 1 Fraser Canyon back to Vancouver. You won't be back tracking until you hit Hope. You will see some of the most beautiful parts of the province.
