Canada line downtown from YVR

I have gained a lot of information from these forums - extremely helpful in planning our forthcoming trip to Vancouver. Many thanks

My question: We (family of 3) are considering taking the Skytrain to our hotel (L'Hermitage Hotel, 788 Richards Street) from the airport; are there many stairs to negotiate to get to the platform for the southbound train to the City center station? Also, are there many stairs when we get there. We will be carrying our luggage - a medium suitcase and a backpack each) I have checked on google maps and it appears to be less than 0.5 km to our hotel.

In addition, can we use a booklet of tickets for Zone 1? My understanding is that we will need to pay $1.25 each and use 3 tickets from the booklet. (we can use the rest of the tickets for the rest of our stay in Vancouvers) Is this correct? Please advise.

We arrive at 10.00 am on a weekday and flying in on Air Canada from new york.

Thank you for your help.

Hi Hemi36 ~

Canada Line is easy, lots of room for luggage. There are elevators at every station, as well as escalators up (but not down.) It's very common to ride on the escalators with your luggage. If you come up at City Center Station and cross the street toward London Drugs, continue along the street with The Bay on your left for two blocks to Richards, then turn south to your hotel, it will be about 400 m.

Faresavers: Yes you can each use a 1 zone faresaver ticket with a $1.25 add fare to make the needed 2 zone ticket. You will have to walk over to the Domestic Terminal, 5-8 minutes to the 7-Eleven or Pharmasave to buy your tix. Then from there, along the overhead walkway to the Canada Line platform. When you get to the platform, you must validate your ticket with a time stamp print. Here's the validating machine you will see on the Canada Line platform. It's the new spiffy design.

The other two skytrain lines and Seabus use this validating machine:

Welcome to TA JaniceF.

When first starting out, always helpful to have a look at TripAdvisor's Posting Guidelines.

The fare saving aspects of travelling on the Canada Line are well known on this Forum and if you look on the top right hand section of this page, you will note, under Top Questions about Vancouver, the sixth topic down is a discussion on how best to avoid the additional surcharge from starting your journey from YVR.

Hi CanadaLine ~

Please do not be surprised if TA removes your post for self promotion. We on this forum only wish that Faresavers and Day passes were available for sale in the International Terminal.

We used the Canada line to go to L'hermitage Hotel in April. Found it easy to do. We had our suitcases on wheels and had no problems on the train. Lots of room. Saw others with their suitcases.

We enjoyed the L'hermitage. Great location. We left there to go to Victoria and then came back.

Enjoy your trip. Took the Canada line back to the airport. Quiick.

Thank you teach1977 for your input.

Makes me feel better and will definitely use the skytrain on our visit there next month, I have no problems using public transit but just feel a bit concerned when we have luggage to contend with. Our bags are also on wheels so I am sure we will manage.

I have read lots of good things about L'Hermitage and we are looking forward to staying there.

Here's a ride on Canada Line. The first 4 min or so are when the journalists are getting positioned from midline to the northern terminus, Waterfront Station. Then the rest of the video is from Waterfront to YVR. There are elevators at all stations, and esclators up but not down. It's common to take luggage on escalators.

Canada Line is the name for the airport train. Skytrain is the name for an east west train. Two different trains, stations and names. Just something to be aware of.
