Ideas and recommendations for a long weekend in February

We are heading up to Vancouver for a long weekend in February, and would love some input on some of the must do things in Vancouver. Not going to do any skiing this trip, but don't mind being outside and walking around. Finally, any restaurant recommendations, especially seafood, would be a big help. Thanks!

You didn't say when in February. This year here for the first time February 11 will be a long weekend (Family Day) and so there will probably more activities scheduled. Try the Georgia Straight for things to do.

Otherwise, Granville Island, walking or cycling around Stanley Park, Gastown, Museum of Antropology at UBC, Grouse Mountain if clear weather,

Again, you may even encounter daffodils or tulips and even small pockets of cherry blossoms.

Seafood: Yew Restaurant at the Four Seasons, Blue Oyster Bar, Rodney's in Gastown.

In the latter part of February king crab season will begin and there are few things more sublime in the world of seafood that going to a Chinese Restaurant like Sun Sui Wah (you will need reservations) and ordering a king crab done two or even three ways. it will cost a fortune: if your main course, you should allow 2 lbs per person at about $20 per pound. Better as a group. However you will not soon forget it.

Chinese New Year falls on Febraury 10th this year so the week before and after there will be stuff to do. The parade in Chinatown should be on the 10th.

Coast

Cardero's

Rodneys Oyster Bar

Joes Fortes Seafood and Chophouse

All have "Happy Hour" specials $

Because the OP is not from hère, you should realize that "Happy Hour" does not involve drink specials but food specials. Drink special happy hour unfortunately is illegal in our province with neanderthal liquor laws.

However, rest assured that it is very unlikely that anyone around you is packing, carrying guns will get you arrested. Thankfully.

"Happy Hours"

Joe Fortes offers a $5. glass of wine or a pint of beer and half-prize appetizers on Fridays 3-6pm.

www.joefortes.ca

Cardero's has a Granville Island brew with their mussel and frites special for $12. Weekdays 3-6pm.

www.carderos.com

p.s. google local news - gangsters pack.

globalbliss: My understanding is that drink prices cannot change during the day. A pub or restaurant can have a weekly or even daily drink special but the price of the drink cannot change at different times during the day (what is typically understood as happy hour)

Pubs and restaurants will sometimes combine food and drink into one package and thereby get around it. From what you have posted, that is what Cardero's may be doing.

I am not trying to support the law but legally as things now stand we do not have happy hours as they are normally understood elsewhere although as you have pointed out, we have food specials or food and drink specials masquerading as such.

UPDATE:

Coast still has "buck a shuck" oysters from 3-5pm. This restaurant and other Global Group restaurants will offer half price appetizers in January and February.

Half price appetizers and drink specials = Happy Hours :D
