Mid-late October to November is foliage season. Early September is summer beach BBQ season, possibly the best time to be in Vancouver, when the city truly shines. Kids go back to school after the first weekend in September, but it's still cruise ship season so prices are still high.

Keep in mind we don't have the same spectacular fall foliage that you get in other parts of Canada- different kinds of trees here. We have some leaves turning, but a lot of it is alder and poplar and elm, which don't do the brilliant scarlet and orange.

That said, I love early September. It feels like it's the driest, mildest month. Spring is pretty because of the flowers, but we're still drying out from winter, and it's still wet and often snowy at higher elevations. Late summer is also a much better time for hiking and driving in the mountain areas. The only drawback compared to high summer is the nights are earlier and cooler.

September is a great time in the city. I used to run an event every year the first week of October and people would argue with me, swearing it was a summer event.

In can snow, but rarely doesn't. December is dark and rainy. I wouldn't come in December - days are short. Sun sets by 4:30pm. September is a million times better.

Also, Vancouver isn't as cold as anywhere east in Canada. It stays above freezing in the winter, usually. What's your reason for coming to Vancouver? What are you hoping to do?

giraffez - take it from an easterner who has been in Vancouver in September and December ... September is much better. In the unlikely event there should be a true snowfall in Vancouver in December ... you really don't want to be there.

giraffez ~

Definitely September. We can get some lovely Indian Summer weather here in September.
