Must see in 2 days!

Hi there,

I am flying in from Australia so by the time i arrive in Vancouver it will be a Wednesday afternoon, so that day is out. On Saturday i need to get to Seattle to meet friends as we are going on an Alaskan cruise. I will be on my own till i get to Seattle. What must i do and see in Vancouver Thursday and Friday? Is a day trip to Whistler a must? What else should i not miss around Vancouver with such a short time there?

Also i was looking at staying at Riviera on Robson street, is this a good location a single female?

Lastly is it best to get a bus or train to Seattle? I want to get there so i can see a bit of Seattle before the cruise leaves on Sunday but if i can see some scenery on the way all the better. This is in September.

Thanks so much for any help.

Riviera location is fine. Walking distance to restaurants, seawall, park, beach etc. but a bit of a hike from the airport subway. A good walk is downhill on Robson to Denman and left on Denman to Davie and up Davie. You'll see lots of locals and many small restaurants. Next day turn right on Denman and rent a bike for a seawall tour (see top questions on this page). I'd skip Whistler with your short time available. The train is much better than bus to Seattle.

Here's a Walking map of downtown, http://www.6717000.com/skycorp/vancouver.html

I as a traveller think it is very useful. It gives you an idea as to where everything is in relation to each other.

You can go to google maps to see the scale, but its all pretty close together. Pick a few places you want to go and see.

Have a browse through these attractions and the links to see which ones appeal to you. They are grouped geographically for ease of visiting.

+1 for Amtrak Cascades. There are two trains per day. Look in the Top Questions for information about getting to the station on time for US Customs pre-clearance.

How's Grouse mountain? The wildlife refuge there and heli-tours look neat!

Grouse is spectacular on a clear day. If you decide on a twilight dinner there the gondola is free.

@beachlover575: if you are interested you can have a look at one of my albums of a visit to Grouse Mountain in june 2007. I took my family from Europe up there and we basically stayed there the whole day, lots to see and do: https:/…

TourismBC published a new video about trip ideas in Vancouver, and coincidentally, it's basically what I recommend if you have two days in Vancouver. It's actually a pretty good video - an accurate portrayal of Stanley Park, Granville Island, etc. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qQt7bs4aUyU

Thanks so much for your help. The walking map is fantastic, puts it all in perspective.

Thanks for sharing pics Annin. How long is the ferry ride to Victoria?

Stanley Park and Grouse Mountain look like the go. Is stanley park safe to run around early in the morning? I like to run. How far would it be from the Riviera hotel on robson st? Thankyou.

The journey to Victoria by car or coach, is about 4 hours, downtown to downtown. The ferry ride in the middle is 1.5 hours.

It's about 1.5 km from the Riviera to the entrance to Stanley Park. Then the seawall around it is 9 km. Yes it's safe, you will have the company of others doing the same run.
