Canada Day is Monday, July 1 - question

Purely by coincidence, I will be in Vancouver on Monday, July 1st. Do the Canadians wear Red and White on Canada day, like in the US, people wear Red, White and Blue on July 4th?

Nah! Well sort of, but nah. We're more latte- and cappuccino-ish than patriotic. But kids paint our flag on their cheeks and some wave little flags, some hockey jerseys. And people come out in droves of dark clothing.

Here's the Canadian crowd on Canada Day last year. The first 2 minutes will answer your question.

Yes, if they're going to Canada Day celebrations, many do.

The Steveston Salmon Festival (45 minutes south of Vancouver) is much more patriotic with the red and white than downtown Vancouver, I've noticed. I grew up going to that Canada Day celebration, and it shocked me how much more low key the Vancouver ones were. So I wouldn't necessarily generalize about Canada Day, as it really does vary where you go. In my experience, small communities with big Canada Day celebrations go all out with the red and white. I imagine Ottawa would be very different, being Canada's capital.
