B&B or hotel close to downtown and victoria island ferry

Will be in Vancouver, BC from August 15 to August 18 then will drive to Kelona.

Please recommend a B&B close to downtown Vancouver and also easy access to ferry to Victoria Island.

Please recommend is it a good idea to bring a rental car over to Victoria Island for a day. Is it expensive? We are flying into Vancouver airport from Boston.

Hi RJoan ~

Is there some reason you want to stay in a B&B? Open the following link for the few downtown B&Bs we have here. Downtown will have more hotels.

You will be going to Vancouver Island. Victoria is our capital city at the south end of the Island. A day trip to Victoria will take about 12-13 hours round trip. The journey each way is 4 hours, for 8 hours round trip, then about 4 hours to visit and get to Butchart Gardens, if that is on your list of things to do. The cost of a standard car and 2 people at the moment is $88 one way, + either $15 or $18.50 to make a reservation, which might help with actually catching the ferry you want rather than possibly waiting for the next available ferry.

You can take a day trip with Landsea Tours or West Coast Sightseeing to Victoria and Butchart Gardens, again in about 13 hours. You would then leave the driving to a professional driver and have commentary on the way.

You can take a seaplane for 35 minutes to Victoria, choose one of their packages for time there and the journey back.

Open the following link to see the route you would take to the ferry and on to Victoria:

I will say that Vancouver is good for 4 nights, you would not be bored.

RJoan, there is no accommodation close to downtown that would also give you easy access to Vancouver Island. First-time visitors to Vancouver often do not realize that the ferry which gives access to the southern part of the Island, and Victoria, leaves from Tsawwassen - about 45 minutes south of Vancouver. It arrives at Swartz Bay on the Island, about 20 minutes north of Victoria. Between Vancouver and Tsawwassen, there are built-up areas, but also lots and lots of farmland. Between Swartz Bay and Victoria, there are also built-up areas, but again lots and lots of farmland.

It takes about 7 hours to drive one way from southern VI to the northern tip of VI and about 3 1/2 hours to drive across at its mid-point. It's not a small island adjacent to Vancouver that one can spend a day easily poking around on and see very much of what there is to see.

There's lots to do in Vancouver. If you don't want to stay right in the downtown area, which admittedly does not have a lot of B&Bs, try some of the different neighbourhoods. Kitsilano, for example, is just over the bridge from downtown and gets very favourable mention on this forum.

Perhaps at some point in the future, you will return to BC and have more time to visit Vancouver Island, which is a vacation in and of itself.

perhaps you were interested I'm visiting Victoria on Vancouver Island. Victoria is very doable in a day. The 1 hr 35 min ferry ride is very beautiful travelling between the Gulf Islands. Some of the big tour companies mentioned do a 13 hr tour, but you can do it in a lot less if you go with a private tour. They can pick you up at the Swartz Bay ferry terminal, the Victoria side, take you to the beautiful Butchart Gardens then show you all the beautiful sites in Victoria. Check out sightseeing tours in Tripadvisor Victoria. There is the Coast Hotel Tsawwassen In Delta that is close to the ferry terminal, yet far from city of Vancouver.
