I jsut got my plane tickets and we arrive seattel 9/14 and spend one night in seattle rent a car and take a ferry from Anacorted to Sydney.. We spend the first two nights in Sooke harbor house or two at point no point lodge. Any suggestions as they both look amazing. We want to stay in Tofino for two to three nights, What would be another do not miss area for three nights maybe on teh way to tofino or after... I am not sure if you have to go back to victoria to get to Tofino or can we take a differnt route. We also want to visit the pender island area for a night then we take the ferry back from Sydney to sEATTLE. So we will have a full 11 nights on VI. Please let me know some suggested road trips staying 3 nights sook 3 nights tofino and 2 nights pender then 3 nights back on VI

Okay, the ferry comes in at Sidney, just a half hour north of Victoria. You will have a longish drive to get to Point No Point after the ferry docks. It's a beautiful ferry ride through the San Juan Islands, so make sure you get out on deck and you might see some orcas.

You haven't got any nights planned in Victoria. Was this intentional? It is a nice place to visit, and you may want to spend at least one or two nights there before you head to Sooke area, or at the end of the trip, before you get back on the ferry in Sidney.

From Point No Point (my vote) or Sooke Harbour House, you can drive up to Port Renfrew, and continue to Lake Cowichan, and head east on highway #18 until you hit #1 highway. Then continue north to Nanaimo and on to Tofino. That way you don't have to return to Victoria. From Nanaimo, you will drive another half hour north before turning west on highway #4. There is lots to see on the drive TO Tofino, and it will be a long day of driving with or without the stops. Make sure you gas up the car in Port Alberni before heading further west.

After your nights in Tofino, you can spend another 3 nights in Victoria, as suggested above, or 3 nights in Parksville area. Or head north a bit further to Courtenay and Mount Washington area. Do you like hiking? Strathcona Park, accessible from Mount Washington, is great for hiking.

The above links are for places on the way TO or FROM Tofino.

The last one, Stamp Falls, is about 14 km off the highway. But the salmon will be running, and if you have the time, it would be well worth the side trip.

You will be driving right by Little Qualicum Falls, and Cathedral Grove.

The above link for the Pacific Marine Circle Route (right side, down a bit) which will show you the way west to Port Renfrew and then across Island to Duncan in order to turn north to Parksville and Hwy 4. Do be aware that if you do drive from PNP > Pt Renfrew > Duncan it will take you 3.5 hours but if you head back to Victoria and up Hwy 1, PNP > outskirts of Victoria > Duncan, it will take a good 1.5 hours. Taking Duncan as a fresh starting point to get to Tofino, then, you will need another 6-6.5 hours for that leg. So you can see your day would involve either ~10 hour drive or ~8 hour drive.

You might look into staying in Parksville for your 3 untagged nights, as J0an has suggested, perhaps at the Tigh-na-mara, or spend them in Victoria after Pender Harbour.

Check out the Vancouver Sun newspaper when you get here as well... if you are here for Saturday's paper. Just yesterday they had a two for one coupon for Jamie's Whaling tours. It is good for the 2012/2013 season. "some restrictions apply", so you may want to check their website. I have no way to know if this same coupon will be in next weekends paper. We only buy Saturday... for the travel section ;o)

The coupon is on page H5.
