Fishing in Victoria/Sooke or Nanaimo for Salmon?

I am interested in going Salmon fishing and wanted to know if anyone could recommend either location for Fishing vs the other? It would be "easier" to go in Nanaimo however it appears Victoria/Sooke may be better fishing?

We just returned from Vancouver Island. Two of the locals who have been fishing for years recommended the beach at Parksville (north of Nanaimo) for fly fishing and the shoreline at Cherry Point in Cowichan Bay or the rocks near Sooke if you fish with bait. The season starting this August is supposed to be one of the best salmon fishing this year with an estimated 50,000,000 (million) salmon expected. We're told that the limit is 20 per person, that 3-4 lbs. is the average per fish and that catching a @ 30 lb. salmon is possible. The locals put back a lot of fish until they land the size that they want and then have the keepers smoked. Good luck!

There a tiny chance of large numbers and a large chance of normal numbers.

\Someone wasn't being truthful with you and that's being polite about it.
