Stay in Victoria or Vancouver

We are taking a HAL end of September 2017 and disembarking 1 day early in Victoria. The itinerary says we get there between 6.00pm and midnight. The thing is, as we are disembarking I would like advice as to whether to stay the night in Victoria, or travel directly to Vancouver to stay the night. We embark on a different cruise the following day ex Vancouver. Any ideas?

I was going to suggest staying overnight in Victoria, so you could see more of the city the next morning. But if you have the next cruise to catch in Vancouver, the very next day, I would absolutely head out to Swartz Bay and get the ferry to Vancouver.

Head out there as soon as possible. The ferry ride is really beautiful, as it goes through the Gulf Islands and Active Pass. You will want to see as much of it as you can, during the evening. Not sure what time sunset is then, so by the time you get organized off the cruise, and get transport out there, you may miss the views anyway.

Just another option.... take the small plane from Victoria Harbour over to downtown Vancouver. That would be so convenient for you! Only thing though, is your luggage. You want to check the weight allowance on the small plane very carefully. You may not be able to use this option, depending on how much you have packed for the trip.

Just make sure you check the ferry schedule:

Your arrival window into Victoria is pretty general - 6pm to midnight...

Last flight on the Harbour Air Seaplane option from the inner harbour is at 705pm. You'd want to leave the cruise ship at 6pm to get to the seaplane dock and check in.

The last ferry leaving Swartz Bay (which is about 45 minutes from downtown Victoria) is at 9pm - so I'd suggest you would want to comfortably leave the cruise ship no later than 730.

The latest option (that I'm aware of) - would be to go that evening to the Victoria International Airport and fly to Vancouver.

You may end up needing to spend the night if the cruise ship can't guarantee an arrival time for you to catch a connection to Vancouver that evening.

Also be aware that on occasion cruise ships can't actually get into Victoria due to winds, doesn't happen very often but it has happened.

Your ship will actually be in Victoria between 6 pm and midnight, not arriving anytime during that time frame. Either grab the BC Connector from downtown Victoria to downtown Vancouver or take a Harbour Air flight.

Jennine ~

Have you received captain's official permission to leave the ship early?

What time does your cruise out of Vancouver sail? What is your check in time for it?

I was going to say the same thing as cruiser. Your ship will arrive at 6 pm and your Victoria shore time will be from 6 pm to midnight. It is likely the ship will sail on to Seattle from there?

I would stay the night in Victoria. Take an evening to explore the Inner Harbour and the waterfront. Look at Grand Pacific Hotel, Best Western Plus Inner Harbour, Royal Scot Hotel, Day's Inn.

Next morning take the first BC Ferries Connector coach over to Vancouver. It takes 4 hours, all in. We don't really recommend taking the ferry on the day of a big event like a cruise departure but there is no Connector out the night before.

The only BC Ferries connector coach that will get you from their Victoria terminus at 721 Douglas St to Canada Place cruise terminal leaves 721 Douglas St at 7h30 am, arrives at Canada Place at 11h45 am. There are several other Connector departures that will take you to Pacific Central Station though, over the day.
