Hotel help Please

My wife and I will be staying overnight in Victoria on June 2nd.We will be there 2 days and just one night. It is my wifes birthday, so I want to stay somewhere nice for her. Any inner harbor hotel suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I do like the Queen Victoria. Its not super plush but very clean, large rooms, across from Empress and really really convenient to everything in the inner harbor.

Another you might consider is the Chateau Victoria. It's 2-3 blocks from the Inner Harbour. The rooms on floor 2-5? or 6? are typical hotel room, the rooms above 5? or 6? are one bedroom suites. They were building next door, between the hotel and the water, last time I stayed there so I don't know the end result for view rooms now. They also have Vista 18 Restaurant on the top floor and quite a nice lounge off the lobby.

Also, there's Laurel Point Inn. It has an older section and a newer section. I know the older section and would actually try the newer section next time. It's right on the point, balconies to either the inner harbour or the outer harbour. You can watch the seaplanes lane. You can stroll on the harbour seawall in the evening. Now, it is farther away from the Inner Harbour, so it would be a trade off. I am thinking you might call them and get their descriptions of their rooms, before just booking online.

And then there's always the Fairmont Empress right on the Inner Harbour. Again you would likely want to contact them to suss out what rooms are where. Any closer to the Inner Harbour and you'd need a change of shoes.

Thanx for all the advice. The Magnolia or the Grand Pacific are kind of standing out to me. Any opinions on either of these hotels?

I personally find the Grand Pacific monolithic and clinical, but have only been through the lobby area. Perhaps there would be something else that would make me feel more intimate and "at home."

If you enter "Magnolia Hotel" in the "Search in Victoria forums" bar just above your original post, you will find many previous threads discussing just this very hotel.

I have stayed twice at the Grand Pacific. I kind of agree with Mufti's comment. I did have a fabulous room on one occasion there, but it was because we knew someone at the time who worked at the hotel. I can't imagine how much it cost.

The other time we just had a regular room, it wasn't anything too special. I would opt for the Delta Hotel over the Grand Pacific. You could get a great view room of the harbour and I tend to like the hotel better overall. The grounds are lovely too.

Then of course the Empress would be a special place, but generally you get a tiny little room. It's more about staying in the hotel itself.

I haven't stayed in the Magnolia, but I have heard it is quite nice.

Cheers

The iconic Empress has some regular sized rooms that can be confirmed by reservation.

If you want to try something completely different, you may want to consider staying at the Sidney Pier Hotel (about 25 km from Victoria) in beautiful Sidney-By-The-Sea, close to the airport. It is an oceanfront, full service eco-hotel. Guests get a free pass to the eucalyptus steam room and fitness room in the spa. Haro's Restaurant offers exceptional dining with a great view, and a nice walk along the beach after dinner may be a romantic way to end the evening. Sidney is very self-contained and easily walkable.

I should add that starting on June 2nd, the Sidney Summer Market will be open.

Every Thursday during the summer, the town of Sidney shuts down Beacon Avenue to host a great street market with live music, food, crafts and vendors. It's quite an enjoyable experience.

June 2 - Aug 25

5:30 - 8:30 pm

Beacon Avenue
