You can walk to LOTS of fun things around the harbour and the museum. Also, the bus system is not that difficult to use if you wanted to go further afield. Butchart Gardens is not walkable, but there is a bus that will take you there. Even Chinatown is walkable from down town.

t would depend on how much time you are spending in the area. I would think that you could cover most of the walkable/transit things in a couple of days. After that, you might want to rent a car to go further afield.

Downtown Victoria is extremely walkable. You won't need a vehicle if you stay around town.

If you are arriving through Victoria International Airport, you can take the AKAL Airport Shuttle from YYJ to downtown Victoria. Departs every 30 minutes and very affordable.

If you are arriving by BC Ferries, Victoria Regional Transit has buses to downtown Victoria. Take the #70, it is an express bus.

If you are arriving by floatplane, you'll be right downtown so you can either walk or take a short cab ride to your hotel.

Enjoy your trip!

I think we're gonna be taking a pacific coach bus/ferry from Vancouver...staying at the Inn at Laurel Point.

HI

If you like walking The Inn at Laurel Point is within walking distance to most attractions and there are harbour ferries that go across if you walk all the way over to the Delta Hotel area and do not to want to walk back to your hotel and, taxis are reasonable.

If you want to see the shoreline and high end residential districts such as Oak Bay then renting a car for a day would be a good idea. There are car rental co in the downtown area.

We're also going to take a whale tour...I think the boat is located on Wharf Street. Is that within walking distance? I appreciate all the advice...can't wait to visit the area.

Nice hotel choice. Right on the harbour. Check into asking for a room in the Erickson wing.

Click on the above link to see the walk route and distance. It's about 1 km and about 15 minutes. If it's a nice day you could do much worse than to walk and get a feel for the Inner Harbour area.

Here's a few things to check out. You might find some of them suits your interests.

VICTORIA DOWNTOWN:

Inner Harbour Causeway

Butchart Gardens – ~2 hours - www.butchartgardens.com/index.php…

Royal BC Museum – ~2 hours, royalbcmuseum.bc.ca/Exhibit_Gall/default.aspx

Craigdarroch Castle

Helmcken House

Emily Carr House

Miniature World

If you have time and think you would like to go to Butchart Gardens, allow a half day. You can get there in 40 minutes on Cruise Victoria Shuttle ... http://www.cvscruisevictoria.com/ ... You pay the shuttle fare and the entrance fee but once there you are on your own. You can take any shuttle back to Vic you want to. Catch the shuttle at the corner of Government and Humboldt.

Edit: Yes Wharf street is very close to the Inner Harbour. Everything in Victoria is handy.
