Trip Report

We spent 5 nights at a great condo in Ucluelet and left early Saturday morning. On our way to Victoria we stopped in Nanaimo for lunch (can't remember the name) and Chemainus to see the murals. In Victoria we stayed at a lovely B&B for 3 nights – the Oak Bay Inn, in the cute little village of Oak Bay. We would highly recommend this Inn for cleanliness and wonderful breakfasts. The first day we took the scenic route from Oak Bay into the City Centre, all along the coast – fabulous homes and views of the ocean. In the City we just wandered the streets, including China Town which wasn't as busy as we expected. We took the one hour harbour cruise on a cute little boat that leaves the dock regularly. We ended up at Canoe Brew Pub on 450 Swift St. for one of the best veggie burgers we've ever had. And the outside patio by the water was perfect to sample one of their many beers.

Next day we took the ferry from Brentwood Bay to Mill Bay to continue to Duncan to work our way back down. Weekdays, seniors don't don't have to pay the passenger fare, just the car fare. Duncan has a nice little walking tour of the town where you follow the footprints to see all the unique totem poles. Then to Cowichan Bay, a cute little seaside town and a visit to the Kinsol Trestle. We came in from the north south side which is a good km. Hike but flat and easy walk. It is quite a magnificent structure.

We also stopped at the G & B Glass Blowing Studio – we saw the sign on the highway and stopped by where the owner demonstrated his very amazing glass blowing abilities. Some lovely wine glasses, oil candles etc. were for sale.

Also a stop at Merridale Cidery to sample some of their great ciders..they have 4 and 6 packs in plastic bottles to take home. We wrapped them carefully into our checked luggage.

We spent our last morning at Butchart Gardens (spectacular!) and then to Sydney By The Sea for a walk about and to pick up sandwiches for our red eye flight home. What a cute, bustling little town. Loved it there and would spend more time there if we came back to the area.

If you know anyone who would like to trade places for a few weeks next year - we live in SW Ontario! We definitely want to get back to Victoria!

You certainly managed to see a lot in your time here too! A lot of those places are still on my own bucket list, so I am really impressed!

I am glad you were able to experience the Brentwood Bay-Mill Bay ferry. They advertise it as the "the most beautiful shortcut in the world". Or something like that!

Thanks for taking the time to let us know how your trip went.

What a great itinerary! I would love to re-trace your steps (esp. the cider & glass studio)...but it won't be until next spring :{. The Beach Drive that links Oak Bay with Victoria proper, is one of the most picturesque drives in the world!
