Need some suggestions.....please.

We are arriving from Seattle on Thursday July 10th via the 8:30am Clipper......staying for two nights.

1. Any suggestions on what not to miss?

2. Want to do an afternoon tea.......was looking at The White Heather Tea Room as opposed to the Empress.......gets very good reviews.........looks like a very long walk from the Harbor.......would a taxi be best to get there or should we consider other choices for tea? or forget tea all together?

3. We do have a car rented for Friday to go to Butchart Gardens. Any suggestions of what else to explore after the morning in Butchart. I know it is around 40 minutes to the gardens.......if we drive and additional 40-50 minutes (tops) from there we would have a return trip of around an hour and a half.....would not want more than that.

Any advice/suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Karen

You could do the scenic route back to Victoria:

You can take the #2 bus from Douglas and Belleville right to the White Heather, 15 min and $2.50 exact change in coins. Do make a reservation a week ahead. Small place, very popular, check their website for closing days. Fab experience.

I have never had a decent meal at the Oak Bay Beach hotel. And we have tried, living nearby we keep giving another chance every 5-6 months ,since they have constant staff turn over. Maybe they will get it right one day.

Thanks for the advice......we will be going on a Friday if that matters re: extra traffic

Looks like around 20 km to Butchart and another 15 km to Sidney. Sidney does have a whale watching tour at 1:30 pm..........If we arrived at Butchart by 9am would 3 hours be sufficient?

Is there anything else to do in Sidney if the whale watching does not work out? Good place for a lunch; quaint shops????

Or we could backtrack to Victoria using the scenic route and visit craigdarroch castle + stop for lunch on the scenic route......any suggestions?

Sidney dubs itself Canada's only Booktown ... which is a bit of a stretch, but if you enjoy books and hunting for bargains and specialties you'll enjoy their bookstores:

Otherwise it is a pretty town with very nice small shops.
